Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Central Operational Team as the Senior Operations Advisor. You will work across a range of key
operational programmes to deliver projects which make a real difference to the way in which the hospital delivers services to its patients.

The role will support the Head of Operational Programme Delivery and work intensively with teams across the organisation to realise the aims of
the Trust’s operational strategy for 2023/24.

The Senior Operations Advisor will have a pivotal role in building and maintaining relationships across a wide range of stakeholders both within
the Trust and with external partners up to CEO level. They may be asked to represent senior members of the Operations Directorate in external
meetings, including with the Trust’s regulators.

You will therefore be adaptable to the changing operational pressures of the Trust and be comfortable to flex their approach across different
audiences.

Main duties of the job

You will advise and support the Head of Operational Programme Delivery and the Director of Operational Strategy on the delivery of key operational targets, capacity-related operational and strategic projects as they arise.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

Masters or equivalent experience/qualification in business, operations management, planning, health management or related field.

Project management qualification (e.g. Prince 2, Managing Successful Projects) or equivalent experience/qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria

Extensive NHS experience obtained at a senior level.

Analysis of project proposals and business case development; understanding of the necessary stages of implementation of innovative projects in a health and social care environment.

Proven experience of working with external partners at all levels.

Experience of coordinating multiple complex projects with co-dependencies where demonstrable benefits were delivered.

Desirable criteria

Strong experience in ED or an operational flow role.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Highly developed specialist knowledge of operational management including capacity management and patient flow in an acute hospital setting.

Highly developed specialist knowledge in performance management, programme management.

Highly developed knowledge of quality improvement in a health care setting.

Working knowledge of health and social care roles, responsibilities, priorities and policy direction.

Skills

Essential criteria

Highly developed communication skills with the ability to communicate highly complex information to a range of stakeholders to enable sound decision-making and provide assurance to external stakeholders on performance.

Able to influence across teams, departments and organisations.

Able to prepare clear, concise, grammatical, correctly referenced and version controlled reports and documents.

Verbally confident and able to articulate the rationale for their position and listen attentively and genuinely to others.

Able to work and communicate with clinicians and senior managers.

Makes use of numerical data naturally, often and with ease.

Leadership attributes and competencies with a high degree of self-awareness.

Highly developed analytical, negotiating and influencing skills.

Able to model complex data in order to support the critical appraisal of business cases including use of tools such as intermediate Excel and the NHS Comparator tool.

Able to work under pressure and within difficult/tight timescales.

Able to work in a matrix structure. Strong team player often working with people that are not directly aligned.

Desirable criteria

Experience of preparing service specifications.
