About the role
The Roman Provincial Coinage Online project ( https://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk) is a leading research project aimed at developing a typology of the provincial coinage of the Roman Empire. The successful candidate will play a pivotal part in facilitating collaboration between the fields of numismatics, epigraphy, and papyrology, making the edited texts and translations accessible to all, and the EpiDoc encoded data available to both the epigraphic and papyrological communities.


You will edit and translate Greek and Latin inscriptions, utilising AI to ensure efficiency. You will encode these inscriptions in XML/EpiDoc format, with AI tools to expedite the process. You will conduct thorough reviews to preserve the quality of epigraphic data, focusing on Greek and Latin linguistics. Additionally, you will lead initiatives to improve the project's data quality and depth.


This is a full-time, fixed-term post for a duration of 1 year.


About You
You will possess advanced proficiency in Greek and Latin, with a focus on translation accuracy and grammatical knowledge. Specialised expertise in Greek and Latin epigraphy is essential.


You will have a strong understanding of Roman onomastics and history.


Experience or willingness to learn XML/EpiDoc encoding is required. You'll demonstrate an interest in digital humanities and AI technologies.


Independent scholarly work, a rigorous work ethic, and meticulous attention to detail are key.


Proficiency in English and excellent communication skills are necessary.


Flexibility and a commitment to continuous learning in a dynamic research environment are crucial.
