Job Purpose
- New role to be created to support the Head of Internal Controls and Internal Audit with the delivery and operation of an ‘in-house’ Internal Audit function (currently outsourced to a third party).
- Bringing Internal Audit ‘in-house’ will enable the risk-based audit plan, as agreed with the Audit & Risk Committee to be completed with RM own resource, which will additionally have the capacity to support a financial controls continuous assessment process.
- The Internal Audit Manager role will take responsibility for the day-to-day fulfilment of the Internal Audit plan, ensuring reviews are completed efficiently, on-time and in accordance with scope. The Manager will take on supervisory duties for another newly created role, that of Internal Auditor
- Support the Head of Internal Controls and Internal Audit with the development of the internal audit function in the delivery of the internal audit plan. Supervision, training and support to Internal Audit team members.
- Manage and deliver a range of risk based audits on financial and operational processes to identify opportunities for improvement where risks exist, and make practical recommendations.
- Responsible for planning, undertaking fieldwork and drafting audit findings and final audit report for discussion with Head of Internal Controls and Internal Audit and senior management. Communicate, via written reports and verbal presentations to management, results of audits and recommendations.
- Help with development of the RM Internal Audit methodology. Ensure audits are carried out in accordance, resulting in fairly rated reports, with realistic and appropriate actions, which are completed in good time.
- Delivery of a risk-based programme to validate the design and operating effectiveness of key internal financial controls, in support of a controls-based external audit.
- Raise critical issues promptly and with the Head of Internal Controls and Internal Audit.
- The individual in this role will have a relevant professional qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA) and be experienced in the delivery of financial audits (ideally both internal and external).
- They will be capable of identifying and assessing risks within an area of scope, and designing a programme of audit tests in order to form a view on the design and operating effectiveness of the relevant controls. They will work with the business to efficiently test those controls, and where issues are identified, make and agree suggestions for improvement. Findings will be summarised within a report to senior management, to be delivered both in writing and verbally.
- They will be capable of managing a graduate internal auditor, inclusion the provision of coaching and support in their development
