Job description

This is a fixed term contract for 2 years (potential for extension, funding permitting).

The role holder will be line managed by the Head of IP & Commercialisation based in Swansea University’s IP & Commercialisation Team, in the Engagement, Innovation & Entrepreneurship Division of the Department for Research, Engagement & Innovation Services (REIS). The IP & Commercialisation Team leads on a range of innovation and commercialisation functions at the University including the management of Intellectual Property (IP). The team is also responsible for commercial transactions undertaken through the wholly owned subsidiary company Swansea Innovations Ltd (SIL).

The Innovations & Spin Out Officer will be responsible for helping the Head of IP & Commercialisation to manage the innovation portfolio that includes consultancy, spin-out companies, licences, and technology transfer activities. The role will be based in REIS team and provide support to activities undertaken by Swansea Innovations Ltd. The role holder will line manage the Innovation Administrator.

The Innovations & Spin Out Officer will also be required to contribute to the monitoring of:

The University’s patent and trademark portfolio.
The receipt of any royalty payments arising from any license or assignment agreements.
The University’s portfolio of spin-out companies.
Monthly internal and annual statutory data reporting
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures, together with any applicable funders’ conditions or guidance.

The Innovations & Spin Out Officer will coordinate their work with that of the IP Contracts Officer and IP & Commercialisation Managers.
