Are you ready to give something back? Do you wanting to develop your skills and take on a bit of challenge?
We are looking people with previous lived experience to become part of our building recovery in communities (BRIc)- Peer Mentor team
It’s often overwhelming for people to make changes in their lives. You can help by giving your time as a volunteer peer mentor. There are lots of different ways you could help support other young people and our services, this can include:
Being a voice for other service users, getting their feedback and sharing ideas on how to improve the service and letting us know what is and isn’t working. You can help shape how we deliver our services contributing to what we post on social media, who we recruit and the types of support we offer. You will be a positive role model promoting our service to other service users and those in the local community. Attending events and supporting the delivery of training
You could also have the opportunity to be matched with a service user working alongside them on a one to one basis. This can include supporting them to attend a group or appointment or just checking in with them to see how they are getting on once they have left the service. You will be a positive influence to the mentee motivating, encouraging, and inspiring them to reach their potential.
You will be provided with all the skills, training and regular 1.2.1 support needed to help you carry out the role. This is the perfect role for someone who wants to be a positive role model, has a passion for supporting others and wants to make a difference
Key Activities:
- Review resources and provide feedback on what is good
- Produce a service newsletter
- Support social media – post content – ensure relevant and engaging
- Co-deliver groups/training to service users and professionals
- Create new ideas to enhance the lives of Adults and young people in our service
- Supporting other adults and/or yp to attend other services/groups
- Signpost adults and/or young people to other services
- Provide end of care/ check in support
- Be a voice for other adults and/or young people ensuring policies and procedures are representative of their views
- Be part of an interview panels for new staff
- Support the service by answering telephone calls and taking referrals.
- Promoting the service and the mentoring programme to other professionals and adults and/or young people
- Get feedback from service users.
- Support the service stands and events in – drop in’s advice and support on a 1.2.1 basis
- Deliver Naloxone training to professionals, staff and service users
- Demonstrating visible recovery and acting a positive role model as you support people in recovery and the wider service
- Supporting our reception, playing a vital role in helping people coming into treatment to feel welcome and safe
- Assisting with the delivery of recovery group sessions
- Helping out with day-to-day tasks within the service
- Offering a listening ear and ad hoc support to people using our services
- Helping us to promoting the service
- General terms of reference:
In carrying out the above duties the post holder will:
- To help Change Grow Live fulfil its role in offering the best service to our clients.
- To perform your volunteering role to the best of your ability.
- To follow the Change Grow Live’s procedures and standards, including health and safety and equal opportunities, in relation to our staff, volunteers and clients.
- To maintain the confidential information of Change Grow Live and of our clients; adhering to Change Grow Live’s policies and procedures
- To meet the time commitments and standards which have been mutually agreed and to give reasonable notice so other arrangements can be made when this is not possible.
Person Specification
Education Knowledge and Experience:
- Good communication skills
- Passionate, non-judgmental, and understanding
- Good IT skills
- Reliable
- Ability to work alongside others
- Understanding and commitment to confidentiality and safeguarding
- Willingness to grow, learn and develop
- Commitment to complete the peer mentor level 1 award
