About us
The Health Improvement Service has been supporting the people of Salford to improve their health and wellbeing since 2004. We deliver informative sessions and activities that help residents to adopt healthier lifestyles – to become physically active, lose excess weight, quit smoking and much more. We also build capacity in the community through Community Development – supporting community organisations to establish themselves, apply for funding, and collaborate. In general, Health Improvement operates across eight Neighbourhood Teams, each of which is managed by a Health Improvement Officer.
This role will be based in our centralised Business and Development Team, separate to our Neighbourhood Teams. This team leads on income generation into the service, development and mobilisation of new workstreams, project and grant funding work.
This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated individual to join this innovative team as a Health Improvement Officer, line managing team members, leading on multiple work streams, and reporting to our Health Development Officers.
For an informal discussion, please contact Angela Eden, Health Improvement Service Manager on 07799115451 or email angela.eden@salford.gov.uk
About you
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about improving the lives of the people of Salford. You must be highly motivated, an excellent communicator, organised, creative, committed to reducing health inequalities, adaptable, proactive, and able to work at a fast pace, to fluid timescales, both independently and as part of a wider team, utilising your own initiative.
You will need to have an in-depth understanding of health and wellbeing, e.g., the wider determinants of health, health inequalities, health promotion, health literacy, and the organisations of the healthcare system.
You will be proficient in the day-to-day management of your own workstreams. It is desirable that you have experience and are competent in the line management of other team members. You will be able to work autonomously via your own initiative, demonstrate our leadership behaviours, and think creatively to solve problems.
Health Improvement is also concerned with integrating care, reducing inequalities, and continuous improvement, so we are looking for someone who can build effective partnerships, work across organisational boundaries, influence and motivate others, and adapt to change. Experience in project management is desirable, alongside the delivery of training courses and presentations.
Health Improvement values diversity and welcomes candidates from all backgrounds, and with different skills. We are committed to upskilling employees where there is a skills gap.
About the role
You will be one of three Health Improvement Officers based within our centralised Business and Development team. You will be responsible for the line management of Health Improvement Worker staff, and report directly to our Health Development Officers.
As an integral member of this team, your role will involve project managing and leading multiple workstreams, including, but not limited to the delivery of:
Alongside the above (which is subject to adapt and change), you will support a small number of smoking cessation clients, work on any new projects as and when they arise, analyse and present health data, and you may become the appointed ‘lead’ for a particular service offer.
Training will be offered to support you in the delivery of all services as required.
There will be a requirement to travel around Salford and occasionally across GM . You may be required to work evenings and weekends occasionally, as the Service delivers outside of standard business hours. We work flexibly to meet the service need and demands.
Please be aware that this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and that you will be required to meet the cost of the DBS check – currently £38.00. The payment for this will be deducted from your first four months’ salary payments at a rate of £9.50 per month. If you do not commence employment for any reason but the DBS has been processed, you will be sent an invoice for the payment of £38.00.
If you have lived or worked abroad for 3 months or more in the last 5 years or 12 months or more (whether continuously or in total) in the last 10 years whilst aged 18 or over, please refer to the link below for details for how to obtain your Certificates of Good Character.
About your benefits
You will be welcomed into a friendly environment where your personal and professional development will be encouraged and you will have the opportunity to work and grow in a values based organisation where people are at the heart of everything we do. We promote a positive permission culture, empowering you to make a difference. Your opinions matter to us and you will have the opportunity to shape how we do things through our Salford 100 employee group and our employee led redesign approach. Your work-life balance and wellbeing are important to us so you will have access to a range of benefits including flexible working, green travel, pension and salary sacrifice schemes. In addition to this we offer a range of health and wellbeing options to suit your needs.
