Job description

RINA is currently recruiting for a Analytical Laboratory Technicianto join its office in Leatherhead within the Consulting Country UK Division.

Job Overview

Are you passionate about contributing to cutting-edge projects and providing crucial support in a state-of-the-art laboratory environment? Join RINA’s Asset and Product Consulting team as an Analytical Lab / RoHS Technical Support Staff Member. 

Responsibilities

1. Project Work:
•    Collaborate closely with technical leads on project initiatives.
•    Ensure necessary preparations are made ahead of any activity and maintain the work area's original condition on completion.
•    Conduct RoHS testing activities, including the stripdown of consumer electrical and electronic products.
•    Perform routine testing of individual components/items using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy (GCMS).
•    Acquire microscope images of products and individual components, ensuring compliance with national/international standards.
•    Support RoHS testing program by preparing liquid samples and extracts.
•    Input data into standard reporting templates.
•    Support other projects within the APC group, including routine electrical testing, equipment disassembly, materials analysis, chemical analysis, and more.


2. Laboratory Maintenance:
•    Take ownership of the Analytical Laboratory, maintaining it as a clean, well-ordered, and tidy working environment.
•    Manage and restock consumables, chemicals, solvents, and laboratory equipment.
•    Proactively audit sample labelling and manage waste disposal.
•    Undertake maintenance of tools, equipment, and facilities.
•    Serve as the Calibration Officer for items of equipment associated with the Analytical Laboratory.
•    Conduct routine COSHH audits and activity risk registrations.
•    Collaborate with the Laboratory Manager to implement improvements and conduct regular health and safety audits.
•    Develop a system for managing the ordering and disposal of laboratory chemicals.


3. Support and Ad-Hoc Activities:
•    Provide support to other laboratories/work areas.
•    Offer ad-hoc support for project and maintenance activities, covering colleague absences or when additional resources are needed.

Qualifications

•    Academic qualifications.
•    Hands-on approach with demonstrable practical ability.
•    Experience in one or more aspects of the responsibilities discussed above is an advantage.
•    Competencies:
•    Laboratory or workshop experience.
•    Ethical and safety mindset.
•    Time management and organization.
•    Adaptability.
•    Problem-solving skills.
•    Attention to detail.
