Teaching Assistant for Year 5 Classroom - URGENT

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team and support pupils with high Special Educational Needs (SEN), including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and challenging behavioral and learning difficulties.

Teaching Assistant Job Description:
As a Teaching Assistant for our Year 5 classroom, you will play a crucial role in providing tailored support to pupils with SEN and challenging behavioral and learning difficulties. Working closely with the class teacher, you as a teaching assistant will assist in creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued and supported. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to pupils with high SEN, including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and other needs, in line with Key Stage 2 year 5 class curriculum objectives.
  • Assisting pupils with their learning activities and helping them to access the curriculum, adapting resources and strategies as needed to suit individual needs.
  • Supporting pupils with their social and emotional development, promoting positive behavior and self-regulation skills.
  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher to implement behavior management strategies and support pupils in maintaining focus and engagement.
  • Providing feedback to the class teacher on pupil progress and any concerns or observations regarding behavior or learning difficulties.
  • Creating a supportive and inclusive classroom environment for the year 5 where all primary pupils feel safe, respected, and valued.
Teaching assistant Requirements:
  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role, preferably within a primary school setting.
  • Understanding of SEN, particularly ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and challenging behavioral and learning difficulties, and strategies for supporting pupils with these needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, teachers, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with pupils who may exhibit challenging behaviors or have complex needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in supporting pupils with SEN and challenging behaviors (desirable but not essential).
