Job description
What you will do in your working day
- To assist with day to day maintenance and minor repairs
- Making sure heating, lighting and plumbing are working on a day to day basis
- Check that doors and windows are working correctly
- Arrange tables and chairs for meetings/events and clearing away
- Stocktake of cleaning and other materials
- To ensure the school is kept clean and tidy at all times
- Keep all floor surfaces free from spills and trip hazards
Undertake other DIY tasks such as:
- Painting and decorating
- Rubbish clearance
- Window and gutter cleaning
- Picture hanging
- Basic swimming pool maintenance and cleaning
- General porterage duties including movement of furniture and equipment within health and safety guidelines ie manual handling regulations
- Undertake simple gardening maintenance such as leaf blowing, weeding, planting, pruning and hedge cutting
- Comply with health & safety, fire regulations and other school policies
- To be committed to safeguarding children and young people
The training you will be getting
- Level 2 Property Maintenance Operative
- Level 2 Functional Skills in English and maths, if required
- One day a week for theory and practical in Langley College

- Carry out repairs to the fabric of the building
- Setting up/taking down of rooms for events
Basic ground keeping
- Grass & hedge cutting
- Weeding
- Planting
- Pruning
- Leaf clearing
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
- Higher Level apprenticeship
- Possibility of employment within a caretaker /site operative role whether in education / retail /industry
- Other trades progression such as plumbing or painting and decorating
