An opportunity exists for a Safety Systems Engineer who will work within the Safety department for our client. The Safety Systems Engineer will primarily provide support to the Safety Manager in the development of safety strategy and systems and their implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
Reporting to the Safety Manager, the key responsibilities and duties will include:
- Developing standards for the safe management of business activities compliant with ISO 18001 and promoting the values and behaviours that lead to a proactive safety culture
- Leading the development, implementation and continuous improvement of key safety systems in the following areas: behavioural safety, inspection, event reporting and investigation, root cause analysis and corrective/ improvement action
- Analysing safety performance, preparing reports for Board and Management level meetings and identifying and proposing actions and improvements
- Acting as a single point of contact and subject matter expert for a specified business area in relation to safety
- Evaluating general external developments in health and safety and proposing appropriate application
- Specifying the content of health and safety training to ensure legal compliance and improved capability
- Coordinating the company health and safety legislation register
- Providing support and assistance across the business as and when required to ensure safe, reliable generation including contributing to the design of emergency exercises and conducting incident investigations
Candidates should demonstrate and possess:
- Experience of developing and documenting safety management arrangements from first principles
- Experience in behavioural safety techniques and a systems approach
- A thorough understanding of the cost basis of business and the benefits and value of successful health and safety management
- Experience of liaising with contractors, suppliers and operational managers
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team managing and prioritising work loads
- Effective communication skills to disseminate information to a wide range of staff across various levels
- Effective time management/ organisation skills
- Ability to co-ordinate, with both the technical knowledge and experience to propose and challenge objectives
- The post holder should be qualified to a minimum level of HND or equivalent in an engineering discipline, be a chartered member of IOSH and preferably hold a NEBOSH diploma or equivalent.
- A qualification in Occupational Hygiene would be an advantage.
The successful candidate will be appointed on a personal contract which reflects the responsibilities of the role as well as the abilities of the individual.
