Job description

What you will do in your working day

Fairfields provide industrial automation and control solutions across various sectors using electrical, electronic and programmable systems.

We’re continuously looking into new technologies and trends. We are already working with IoT devices, cyber-security solutions, augmented reality and advanced software design.

At Fairfields, you will be designing software solutions at our Head Office in Retford. You may also be working on our client’s sites where you could be involved in:

• Flood defence schemes
• Aerospace solutions
• Moving bridges and structures
• Manufacturing facilities
• Roller coasters / leisure rides
• Pharmaceutical facilities

As an Apprentice at Fairfields, you will be designing, testing and developing software. You will be helping Fairfields develop some of the most iconic and challenging engineering projects in the UK and worldwide and be part of the team delivering and transforming our customers technology solutions.

The training you will be getting

The Level 6 Apprenticeship programme provides block release to Sheffield Hallam University. This enables you to access education up to degree level without the need for a student loan so you can earn while you learn. We sponsor you throughout your apprenticeship and in return, you receive a competitive salary. We also provide ongoing support and mentoring throughout the programme to ensure you are on track to becoming a qualified Software Engineer.

Upon completion of your Apprenticeship, you will attain a BSc (Hons) in Digital and Technology Solutions. Read more aout the course:

The course covers:

• Systems analysis and design
• Programming fundamentals
• Computer and information security
• Database administration and security
• Object-oriented programming
• Software engineering concepts and methods
• Designing and developing enterprise systems

You will be supporting the IIoT Team performing specialised functions; analysing, researching, testing, improving, defining, implementing and executing software solutions across a wide range of projects and sectors.

In addition to the below entry requirements, you will also need one of the following:

• 96 UCAS points from 3 A levels (General Studies acceptable)
• 112 UCAS points with at least 64 from 2 A levels or equivalent BTEC
• Access to HE Diploma with at least 45 credits at level 3 and 15 credits at level 2
• A completed level 3 apprenticeship

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Once qualified, you will have the opportunity to progress into a full-time and permanent position as a Software Engineer.
