The University is seeking to recruit a Contracts Manager to join its Legal and Compliance team. A full-time role, the successful candidate will be joining a supportive team environment in which they will provide contractual and legal advice to academic and professional service colleagues. Ensuring contracts move forward efficiently whilst protecting the University’s interests is an essential part of the role, as is managing your own time and portfolio of work.
Duties will include:
Leading a responsive and flexible contract management function to proactively support contract development, implementation and delivery.
Managing the University’s response to consumer marketing legislation, particularly in relation to the provision of information to students.
Candidates should be educated to degree level (or equivalent) and have previous experience of working in a busy contracts’ environment, with particular focus on research contract.
The successful candidate will be expected to commence on the 1st April 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post.
This role will be located on campus at Bangor. Through our Dynamic Working framework, there will also be the option to spend some time working remotely (although remaining in the UK) to support work life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.

Utilising a mix of bespoke in-house contracts, the legal services library and the Legal Services agreements to manage a fit for purpose, cost effective contracts function which provides a responsive and flexible service which serves the strategic priorities of the University;
Reviewing, drafting and negotiating a wide range of contracts to include commercial, research and collaborative teaching contracts, utilising template agreements and drafting bespoke agreements where necessary;
Developing and maintaining a suite of template contracts and agreements;
Managing the contracts database and overseeing all contract related data, ensuring that comprehensive records are kept of each stage of contract negotiations in accordance with data management procedures;
Drafting, negotiating and advising in relation to Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) and managing the University’s NDA database
Responding to contract queries, and assisting staff with interpretation and explanation of information, and keeping staff informed at all stages of the process;
Being the first point of contact for all contract related matters ;
Taking responsibility for continuous improvement of the service, identifying opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency, to include identifying, developing and managing KPIs and providing quarterly performance reports to the Head of Legal Services;
Supporting the process of procurement where advice on terms and conditions is required;
Establishing and maintaining excellent links with departments across the University as well as stakeholders within other higher education institutions and partner organisations;
Consumer Marketing Legislation
Managing the University’s consumer marketing legislation responsibilities, reporting to the Compliance Committee , to ensure continued compliance, arranging relevant training and guidance for staff and ensuring that all processes reflect the requirements;
Establishing and running a small group of stakeholders across the University to ensure that CMA compliance remains a key priority in all aspects of student facing interaction;
Ensuring that all relevant University policies, procedures and terms and conditions are compliant with the requirements of consumer rights, embedding consumer rights into the work of the University, ensuring its relationship with students is fair and transparent;
Preparing an annual report for the Compliance Committee on consumer marketing compliance, including evidence of consumer marketing requirements being considered in all relevant aspects of the University’s business.
The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.

Qualifications/Training
Essential
Undergraduate degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area e.g LLB Law
Experience/Knowledge
Essential
Have an understanding of the legal issues which arise in the context of a contract, as well as being articulate, commercially aware and having a keen eye for detail.
Have an understanding of contract law and of the legal issues facing a University, as well as experience of successfully drafting and negotiating contracts.
Experience of working within a busy office environment.
Experience in dealing with senior staff on matters of sensitivity and confidentiality.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel etc).
Desirable
Experience of working within a Higher Education environment.
Experience of working with external agencies.
Knowledge and understanding of the issues currently affecting the Higher Education environment.
