Job description


G3 Stroke Unit is a 28 bedded unit incorporating 12 hyper acute beds and 16 acute/rehab stroke patients.

As Sister/Charge Nurse, you will be working closely with the Senior Sister, Matron and the larger multi-disciplinary team playing an integral role ensuring and maintaining high quality patient care.

You will be expected to demonstrate clinical leadership and drive quality improvement changes in the clinical setting.

You will support junior colleagues in their professional development and with appropriate training you will support the senior sister with management of staff sickness, appraisals ,staffing issues, incident and complaint management etc.

We can offer you a range of management and leadership development opportunities to support you in this role. as well as support from a dedicated clinical practice educator who provides support to all our staff and can focus on any specific training requirements you may have.

• The post holder will provide professional, clinical and managerial leadership to the staff on the Unit
• The post holder will have ongoing responsibility for the quality of care, cleanliness, environment and infection, prevention & control within the clinical area
• To implement the Trusts’ Core Values and Philosophy of nursing, ensuring they are embedded into everyday practice and evaluate their impact on the customer experience.
• To provide individualised patient care and develop/maintain standards of evidence-based care in nursing practice and policies
• Act as role model for other staff
• Lead and drive change and quality improvement initiatives
• To manage the work within the clinical area effectively and make the best use of resources; encouraging and leading service development accordingly. To bring in a balanced budget at the end of the financial year.
• To ensure that professional accountability is maintained in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Professional Conduct (2002).
• To demonstrate strong leadership skills.
