Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO)
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced, empathetic, innovative,
and qualified SENCO to join and lead provision at Atelier 21 School. Atelier 21
is a progressive independent small school with an enquiry-based approach, where
alongside discreet teaching, pupils learn through self-directed learning,
project-based learning and Wild Fridays (whole school outdoor learning every
week). Our mission is to ready young people for the uncertain and exciting
future they face in the 21st Century and provide an education that is fit for
purpose, leaving behind some outdated traditions. Please see

children 4-16 years and currently have pupils 4-12 years at our school which
opened in September 2021 as a first of its kind in the UK.
This role gives the successful candidate the opportunity to continue to shape and enhance our SEN provision helping and supporting students to build upon their skills and aspirations whilst also nurturing their social, pastoral, and emotional development. The applicant will have an in-depth knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice 2014 and the EHCP process, gained the NASENCO qualification, and should also demonstrate an understanding of outstanding classroom practice across the school ability range from Reception to Year 11. The applicant will need to be a highly committed, motivated, and passionate practitioner who possesses a strong work ethic to enable them to fully support children with diverse additional needs. A flexible approach is a prerequisite.
As the SENCO, you will be responsible for maintaining the relationships with parents, teachers, and external contacts to ensure the steady progress of pupils, reviewing paperwork and chairing EHCP meetings with local authorities in attendance and managing and monitoring the therapeutic intervention being delivered to ensure that the provision is of a consistently high standard.

- Possess the NASENCO award and specialist Dyslexia training and qualification

- Experienced in rigorous tracking and monitoring of children’s progress and working within The Code of Practice.
- An excellent communicator, with a strong commitment to working in partnership with parents, governors, local authorities, external agencies, and the community.
- Experienced in managing and leading a committed team of enthusiastic Learning Support Assistants
- Managed therapeutic intervention and line managed therapy teams to include SALT, OT, and Counselling.
- Areas of responsibility and key tasks:
- Put provision in place to ensure that progress of pupils with SEN improves relative to those without SEN.
- Conduct a range of intervention and tailored support sessions for children across subjects including maths and literacy, social and emotional difficulties, and sensory processing issues
- Ensure that the school carries out its statutory responsibilities regarding all students with Statement of Special Educational Needs.
- Support all staff in understanding the needs of SEN pupils.
- Support departmental developments of SEN provision.
- Monitor progress towards targets for pupils with SEN.
- Analyse and interpret relevant school, local and national data.
- Liaise with staff, parents, external agencies and other schools to co-ordinate their contribution, provide maximum support and ensure continuity of provision. Teaching and Learning
- Support the identification of and disseminate the most effective teaching approaches for individual pupils with SEN.
- Work with staff to develop effective ways of bridging barriers to learning through - assessment of needs - monitoring of teaching quality and pupil achievement - target setting - IEPs, or Provision Maps, PSP, CAF - keeping accurate records.
- Collect and interpret specialist assessment data to inform practice.
- Undertake day-to-day co-ordination of SEN pupils' provisions through close liaison with staff, parents, and external agencies.
- Work with headteachers, teachers, key stage co-ordinators and pastoral staff to ensure all pupils learning is of equal importance and that there are high and realistic expectations of pupils.
- Provide professional guidance to staff to secure good teaching for SEN pupils, through both written guidance and meetings; lead on the performance management process for SEN teachers and Support Assistants; advise on and contribute to the professional development of staff, including the whole school INSET provision.
- Provide regular information to the Headteacher and governing body on the evaluation of SEN provision.
- Effective deployment of staff and resources
- Advise the headteacher and the governing body of priorities for the deployment of staff and utilise resources with maximum efficiency.
- Maintain and develop resources, co-ordinate their deployment and monitor their effectiveness in meeting the objectives of school and SEN policies.
- Work with external agencies to maximise resources made available.
