Chemical Technician – Job Summary:
We’re supporting our client, a leading manufacturer based in Wokingham, who are looking for a Chemical Technician to join their growing team. The successful Chemical Technician will have experience of formulations, analysis, testing and report writing.
Salary: £24,000 – £26,000

Responsibilities for Chemical Technician:
- Fulfil the company’s orders and forecasts by supplying formulations.
- Strict adherence to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions related to fixative and reagent formulation.
- Regularly check the production schedule and communicate daily priorities with the manager.
- Provide a comprehensive handover report at the end of each shift, including a chemical room/manufacturing overview and details of formulated products.
- Report any equipment damage or breakdowns to the manager and Maintenance Engineer.
- Maintain a clean working standard for equipment and report any external maintenance requests or equipment damage.
- Ensure consistent use of the correct uniform/PPE.
- Conduct regular stock checks and request the purchase of necessary equipment and consumables for chemical manufacture.
- Take responsibility for maintaining and updating spreadsheets and production records related to the chemical department.
Operations:
- Review and enhance working practices within the chemical department, implementing a continuous improvement plan.
- Assist in day-to-day operational duties during staff shortages.
- Perform both minor reactive and preventative maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Effectively manage and schedule the manufacture of chemical formulations in compliance with Health and Safety legislation and the companies’ work instructions.
- Provide assistance in other operational responsibilities as required.
Quality:
- Adjust conditions based on inspections and sign off on corrective action reports following approval from the Quality Department.
- Collaborate with the team to maintain the company’s quality standards during production.
- Work closely with the quality department and production manager to ensure records align with internal quality system.
- Assist the manager in identifying and implementing continuous improvement programs for the Automated Assembly department.
- Offer technical advice on Auto Assembly issues to the Quality and Research (Q&R) department as needed.
Training:
- Collaborate with the manager to identify training requirements within the Auto Assembly Department.
- Ensure timely submission of external training certificates to the manager and the Q&R department.
- Provide advice and training to Q&R department members on Auto Assembly specific defect identification.
Personal Management:
- Maintain awareness of Health and Safety obligations for safe working practices.
- Take ownership of compliance with the company’s quality system, completing all allocated training using provided software within specified completion dates.
- Forward all external training certificates to the manager or HR for documentation.
- Fulfil any other reasonable duties required by the company as needed.
Research & Development:
- Collaborate with the Head of the companies R&D in accordance with business priorities to facilitate a seamless transition of new formulations from development to the manufacturing phase.
- Engage in regular communication with the R&D team to stay updated on ongoing projects and upcoming developments.
- Provide valuable input and insights to R&D during the formulation development process, contributing to the practicality and feasibility of manufacturing.
- Ensure effective coordination between the Chemical Department and R&D to optimize the implementation of new products in the manufacturing environment.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to enhance understanding and alignment between the R&D and Manufacturing departments.
- Contribute to the development of protocols and procedures that streamline the transition of formulations to the manufacturing stage.
- Collaboratively troubleshoot any challenges or discrepancies that may arise during the transition, fostering a cooperative environment between R&D and Manufacturing.
