Job description
The London Embroidery Studio creates bespoke machine embroidery for fashion, interior design, TV, film and theatre, events and artist clients worldwide.
The Studio Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the creation of large-scale embroidery projects for a luxury fashion client. The successful applicant will assist in various stages of the embroidery process, ensuring high-quality execution and timely completion of designs.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of embroidery materials.
- Support the setup of embroidery frames and machines for large-scale projects.
- Help with the execution of embroidery designs, following precise specifications and quality standards.
- Perform hand embroidery tasks as needed to add intricate details to the works.
- Collaborate with the design team to understand and implement design concepts accurately.
- Maintain a clean and organised work environment, ensuring tools and materials are properly stored.
- Assist in the packing and shipping of finished embroidery pieces, ensuring they are securely and safely dispatched.
Skills and Experience
Required:
- Textiles degree or equivalent
- Proficient in various embroidery techniques, both machine-operated and hand-executed.
- Ability to follow complex design instructions with attention to detail.
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precise embroidery work.
- Basic understanding of textile materials and care.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with the design team and other assistants.
- Ability to manage time efficiently and work on multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Creative and artistic sensibility with an appreciation for fashion and textile art.
- Proactive and eager to learn new skills and techniques.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing project requirements and deadlines.
- A team player who contributes positively to a collaborative work environment.
- Available to work shift patterns and possibly weekends
Desired:
- Experience in embroidery or textile arts is beneficial
- Experience working in a studio environment or on collaborative artistic projects is beneficial
- Coursework or certification in textile arts, embroidery, or related fields is beneficial
