Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-qualified graduate to join the School in our excellent Physics department from September 2024. This role would be a great opportunity for an individual wishing to gain experience in the independent sector. The post is full-time and permanent and teaches Key Stages 3-5. Additionally, the ability to teach Mathematics to GCSE level is desirable.

The Physics Department has three teachers and three laboratories, with two full-time and one part-time Science Technicians serving the Science departments. The department teaches the AQA A Level Physics specification and iGCSE Physics. Students start the iGCSE course in Year 9 and the expectation is for all students to aim towards three separate science qualifications. The school has an excellent reputation for Science and a large number choose to study Science in the Sixth Form and at University, with a number going on to read Physics or Engineering.

Students follow directed courses with numerous enrichment opportunities, including the opportunity to take part in the school Science Club, projects, and the British Physics Olympiad. These allow for the development of independent learning and many cross curricular thinking skills. Students are given the opportunity to do an Extended Project Qualification in addition to their A Level courses, with many interesting scientific topics amongst those chosen. The department is committed to the development of all students, allowing them to reach their potential.

Year 7: Winchester Science Centre, Mission to Mars Project

Year 8: Sustainability Project

Year 9: F1 in Schools

Year 10: National Scientific Thinking Challenge

Years 12 & 13: Physics in Action conference, British Physics Olympiads

About us

Sir William Perkins’s School is a high-performing, academically selective, independent girls’ school for approximately 600 students aged 11 – 18 years. The Head is both a member of HMC and GSA. It is located on an attractive 12- acre site situated on the outskirts of Chertsey, a two-minute walk from the railway station and very near to the junction of the M3 and M25.
