Job description

Veterinary Surgeon - Essex

I am working with an independent small animal practice that is seeking a hard-working and compassionate veterinary surgeon to join their team. They are a busy RCVS Tier 2 accredited practice with a well-established client base, being an independent practice for over 40 years. They are also a Silver level accredited ISFM Cat Friendly Clinic. Their ethos is to provide a high standard of care which is affordable and animal welfare focused, and they work closely with local animal rescue charities.

The team consists of 3 full-time Veterinary Surgeons, 4 RVNs, 1 SVN, 2 VCA's, supportive receptionists and the practice manager. They take pride in our amazing teamwork, utilise everyone's skills to their full potential and value the importance of every member of staff. You will have the clinical freedom to work cases that interest you, but also a very supportive team for clinical discussion. Their facilities include designated cat and dog wards with separate theatres and dental suites (the cat ward has been newly refurbished with Casco kennels), two spacious consultation rooms, well-equipped theatres, piped gas, multiparameter machines and doppler, digital radiography and ultrasound machine, tonometry and in-house laboratory.

The role is varied and rota allows for consults and operating days. No sole charge is required. A full-time position would be 40hrs per week over 4 days, 9am-7pm including a paid lunch break. A part-time position may be available with hours being negotiable. There is a requirement for 1:4 Saturdays from 9am 4.30pm. There are no Sundays or Bank Holidays, OOHs or on-call.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and client-facing skills, good timekeeping and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. You will have a good level of experience with medicine and surgical cases, being competent with routine procedures in particular, and you will be keen to develop skills in area of interest. A minimum of one year UK experience is required, and experience with ultrasonography or cardiology would be beneficial.

You will be working in Grays, a vibrant town steeped in history amid modernity. Nestled along the River Thames, its allure lies in a blend of urban energy and serene waterside charm. Grays enjoys excellent transport connections; its railway station serves as a vital hub, offering direct links to London and nearby towns. The A13 road provides seamless access, while proximity to major airports like London City and Stansted enhances regional and international connectivity.
