The role will be focused on maintaining a high quality backend of a free-to-play Unreal Engine based game. You will be a hands on lead working with the backend team. This will involve working closely with all disciplines and leading the Backend team to identify, design, implement and maintain the scalable backend services capable of supporting millions of players
Reports to
You will report to the Technical Director
What will you do?
- Manage the backend Team includingMentoring, training and Recruitment
- Perform duties as the Hiring Manager
- Have input into code tests for engineering roles
- Career Development of the team including,1-2-1s,Performance assessment, ensuringthe team follows tech procedures and ensuringBackend documentation is well written and maintained
- Input on Technical design
- Work closely with other Team Leads
- Hands on Backend development
What are we looking for?
- Extensive programming experience in the game industry.
- Commercial backend experience
- A background building complex service architectures in a senior or principle capacity
- SQL, document and key-value databases
- Great verbal and written communication skills in English
What additional skills will help you stand out?
- C++, ideally with experience of Unreal Engine
- Experience integrating third-party providers for authentication, voice chat, etc
- Practical understanding of game-domain specific concepts such as matchmaking
- Experience working with highly distributed teams
- Experience operating a live free-to-play game service
