The facility at Hemel Hempstead manufactures trace detection equipment based on Ion Mobility Spectrometry technology and products such as the Ionscan 600 and the Lightweight Chemical Detector have an excellent reputation for performance and reliability in worldwide use.
You will be w ork ing within the Manufacturing Engineering team to sustain existing manufacturing activities and introduce new manufacturing capabilities, the Senior Electronic Equipment Design Engineer will work with Electronics Engineers and Software Engineers from the R&D teams for New Product Developments, with the Manufacturing Engineers to support the manufacturing of current products, and with external suppliers to enable the supply of capable subsystems and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities(include, but not limited to)
- Technical Lead on electronics activities required to enable and sustain manufacturing.
- Design and build production test systems.
- Fault Finding / Troubleshooting of electrical circuits.
- Investigate electronics approaches to meet new product requirements, propose, develop and implement robust and reliable solutions to enable manufacturing to cost and throughput targets.
- Understand and interpret technical requirement specifications. Support existing manufacturing by responding to electronics related problems causing production outages, developing additional capacity as required, and continuous improvement of existing electronics test and fabrication equipment.
- Investigate component obsolescence issues and identify solutions to support extending product lifetimes.
- Work with external suppliers such as PCB manufacturers to ensure that their test capabilities are able to assure the quality and performance of incoming parts.
- Be responsible for personal health and safety and that of all that may be affected by your work, following company policies for risk assessment of processes and equipment.
- Keep familiar with technology development and ensure personal currency and understanding of Electronics Engineering developments.
The Individual
- Electronic Engineering related degree/HNC
- At least 5 years relevant working experience in a manufacturing environment
- Professional society membership (e.g. IET or similar)
- Familiar with electronics manufacturing methods
- Competent user of schematic capture and simulation tools (Pspice)
- Lean Manufacturing knowledge
- Experience of Manufacturing Systems Analysis and Gage R&R studies
- Excellent team worker, able to work with minimal supervision to deliver to deadlines
- Knowledge of Military Standards
- Knowledge of Arduino based systems.
- Ability to mentor and develop technicians and junior engineers
- Familiar with electromechanical/pneumatic systems
- Experience of manufacturing automation
- Experience of working with subcontractors and managing their activities and timescales
