Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our dedicated team, supporting the delivery of our insurance services.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?
You will perform a key role in the management of our Insurance Claims and Advice Officers, Claims Assistant and Apprentice by allocating duties and enabling their development through effective training and support.

You will lead on the management of claims against the Council and support the delivery of effective insurance services.
With excellent analytical skills you will analyse claims information to compile reports for insurers at renewal, as well as analyse complex claims information and monitor trends to identify patterns of risk.
As an effective communicator, you will provide detailed reports of and for financial information to the Strategic Risk, Insurance and Governance Officer to prepare insurance budgets and forecasts.

You will work with services, providing advice and guidance, to ensure effective claims handling.

With a professional and customer focused approach you will engage with claimants and their solicitors, using tact and diplomacy when dealing with difficult or sensitive claims.

WHAT WILL I NEED?
You will need 4 GCSEs graded A-C including English and Maths or equivalent and will either already possess or are working toward professional insurance qualifications, or, have the ability and commitment to study for a professional insurance qualification, such as the Certificate in Insurance.

You will also need:
Relevant management experience
Substantial insurance experience
Experience of analysing and reporting on insurance claims information
Knowledge of the principles of indemnity applied when dealing with liability claims
Excellent analytical skills
Effective communication skills
A professional and customer focused approach with the ability to display sensitivity and diplomacy

HYBRID WORKING
Durham County Council currently operates a hybrid working policy where a model of 2 days in the workplace and 3 days at home/remote will apply. This model is pro-rated for part time roles and arrangements are at managers discretion, alternatively you can work all of your contracted hours within the workplace if you prefer.
