Job description
syncreon part of DP World are currently recruiting for a Systems Engineer to support in configuring, implementing, and maintaining the organization's IT infrastructure. In this position, you will be responsible for configuring and fine-tuning various technology components, including systems, servers (physical and virtual), storage and core IT services, to ensure optimal performance and reliability network wide. This role will be a REMOTE working role based anywhere in the UK. There will be requirements for travel so Midlands based would be ideal.
About the Role:
How you will contribute:
- Work closely with the Infrastructure IT team and other relevant departments to understand their requirements and translate them into practical and effective IT solutions.
- Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and implementation of new technologies and tools, recommending appropriate additions or enhancements to the existing infrastructure. Additionally, the role will involve monitoring system performance, conducting routine maintenance tasks, and implementing security protocols to safeguard against potential threats.
- Executing and overseeing the deployment of hardware and software solutions, as well as integrating them into the existing infrastructure.
- Deploy, configure, and maintain VMware infrastructure, ensuring efficient virtualization and resource utilization
- Implement and manage multi-factor authentication solutions for enhanced security across various systems and applications.
- Deploy, configure, and maintain Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2022 infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and security.
- Manage and monitor Endpoint security Platforms including detection and respond to advanced threats.
- Implement and maintain web and reverse proxy solutions, ensuring secure and reliable access to internal and external resources.
- Oversee, configure and manage email security and threat protection platforms
- Implement and manage backups and replication using platforms such as Commvault, Veeam, and Zerto for replication and disaster recovery purposes in Tier 4 datacenter environments.
- Participate in an on-call Rota, providing remote support, incident management, and problem resolution following ITIL processes.
- Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and emerging technologies, proactively making recommendations for improvement.
- Collaborating with stakeholders and IT teams to design and deploy new systems and technologies that meet the organization's needs and objectives. This involves analyzing requirements, selecting appropriate hardware and software, and configuring systems for optimal performance.
- Overseeing the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers, both physical and virtual, to support various applications and services. They ensure servers are up-to-date, secure, and perform at their best capacity.
- Implementing security measures and protocols to safeguard the organization's IT infrastructure from potential threats and cyberattacks. This may include setting up firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access controls.
- Constantly monitoring the health and performance of IT systems to identify and address potential problems proactively. They may perform routine maintenance tasks, apply software updates, and optimize configurations.
- Investigating and resolving technical issues related to hardware, software, and network components. Troubleshooting may involve diagnosing problems, working with vendors, and collaborating with other IT specialists to find solutions.
- Implementing and managing data backup strategies to ensure data integrity and availability. They may also create and maintain disaster recovery plans to minimize downtime in case of system failures or emergencies.
- Maintaining comprehensive documentation of system configurations, processes, and procedures. They may also generate reports on system performance, security incidents, and other relevant metrics.
- Staying up to date with emerging technologies and trends in the IT industry. They assess the potential benefits and drawbacks of new technologies to make informed recommendations to the organization.
Your Key Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
- Certifications such as ITIL Foundation, CompTIA A+, Net +, Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, or similar, VMWare VCP.
- Passionate individual with strong proactive work attitude, self starter, adaptable who welcomes challenge and problem solving
- Solid experience in managing and maintaining Windows Server environments.
- Strong knowledge of Endpoint protection for threat detection and response.
- Proficiency in web and reverse proxy technologies, such as Nginx or Apache.
- Experience in implementing and managing web security and cloud services such as Zscaler.
- Deep understanding of Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP.
- Familiarity with email security platforms, their administration and deployment.
- Working knowledge of Certificate Authorities and digital certificates.
- Experience with Azure cloud services and Office365 administration.
- Proficiency in backup and replication technologies, such as Commvault, Veeam, and Zerto.
- Solid understanding of VMware infrastructure and virtualization technologies, particularly in Tier 4 datacentre environment
