Job description
We have a brand new opportunity at our Kemsley Paper Mill for an Area Engineering Manager to join us and contribute to a high-perfoming team. Working closely with your team and other operational units around the Mill, you’ll be responsible for the effective operations and development of a dedicated area.
In this role, you will lead all engineering activities for the area through your multi-skilled team, looking after planned and reactive maintenance, and you’ll identify and agree on various project and improvement activities.
Other responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring that all work is undertaken within the site policies relating to Health, Safety and Environment and to ensure compliance with all relevant Management Standards
- Working to ensure all activities are completed in the most cost-effective manner and within budgetary control
- Accountability for the engineering performance KPIs within your area, monitored and achieved by closely working with the Area Production Manager for machine performance
- Providing clear and direct supervision of the team, ensuring all team members are clear on their objectives and performance via regular one-to-one reviews and more formal PDRs
- Conducting analysis of available data and ensuring all single & repeat failures are being addressed in a timely manner without the need for re-work or repeat intervention
- Adopting a maintenance approach that has a strong focus on condition monitoring and ensuring inspections meet target completion rate each month
- Managing the operational maintenance activities through your team activities to conduct the following key activities to a high standard: Planning & Execution of the 7-day and Planned Shuts, plus ensuring adequate breakdown response alongside shift teams.
Note: This role is part of a callout rota, you will be on call 1 week out of every 6 with the expectation that you’ll provide support on any escalated issues.

- Significant mechanical engineering experience
- Understanding of E&I and craft engineering
- Experience in manufacturing industry
- Competent management skills, with demonstrable experience leading a diverse team
- Driven and self-motivated, always looking for improvements in the way we do things
