What you'll be doing: The Risk & Assurance (Hazardous Waste) Advisor is to support the hazardous waste business on Risk & Assurance matters. This includes conducting site visits, assuring against standards and monitoring progress and engaging with operations to drive business improvements. The advisor must work closely with stakeholders to monitor and understand the risk profile across the business and act accordingly. In addition the advisor acts as a point of contact for expert advice on process safety and health and safety topics.
- Act with autonomy to manage time, stakeholders and responsibilities.
- Monitor the performance of your sites in order to identify where additional support / actions are required. Escalate any concerns to the manager
- Where you identify any serious issues appropriate action must be taken, including escalating and stopping the job
- Organise and support 7 day reviews following close calls, incidents and accidents where required - liaise with the operational teams to ensure a full investigation has been completed
- Support R&A Team with communication on good practice and lessons learnt
- Attend sites as per the visit planner and business line risk profile to engage with operational teams and to observe the day to day activities.
- Support operations to drive business improvements relating to risk management.
- Ensure that all improvement projects are implemented at site level and outstanding actions are identified and managed with the operational leads.
- Track progress and visits to assure the site meets standards.
- Support sites with hazard studies and human factors assessments
- Manage COMAH intervention visit plan and preparations
- Support the site carrying out event investigations to identify root cause. Depending on severity escalate / seek advice from R&A Manager.
- Attend and support your sites. Attend meetings where R&A presence is required as necessary.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including, but not limited to; MDs, PFI Directors, Head of Technical Performance, Contract Directors, GMs, BMs, Contracts and Operational Managers as well as R&A wider teams.
- Supporting the bid process and attending client/customer sites as required.
- Promote good practice across the business and recommend improvements.
- Actively involved for certain improvement projects, which could include secondment and working groups across the wider R&A team
What we're looking for: - Experience working with COMAH sites.
- Process safety management experience,
- Experience in process safety and related specific topics, e.g. human factors, functional safety, hazard studies, DSEAR.
- Investigation experience
- NEBOSH general certificate (or similar) and relevant experience in health and safety management.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence key stakeholders at all levels.
- Be motivated to drive improvements within the business to achieve a proactive culture.
Desirable:
- Experience in hazardous waste management and treatment
- Expertise in technical safety topics
- Engineering background and experience
