We are looking to appoint a Research Fellow to join a multidisciplinary research team working on an UKRI funded project related to plastic recycle from textile waste. The project is jointly funded by EPSRC and BBSRC, targeting the development of biorefining strategy for the conversion of textile waste into recycled fibre for new textile products.
You will participate in a collaborative research project between the University of Huddersfield and Imperial College London. For this post particularly, various biological approaches will be explored to break down cellulosic fibre to separate cellulose from synthetic fibres. The underlying mechanism of enzymatic degradation of cellulose in textile products will be elucidated. AI assisted enzymatic degradation of cellulose will be investigated.
With a PhD in biotechnology or microbiology you will ideally be a biochemical engineer with good knowledge of biorefinery and biosynthesis, who can demonstrate a track record of research and publications. Lab experience related to textile fibre is desirable.
We offer an excellent employment package including hybrid working, blending a mix of remote and on-campus working (dependent on work duties).
