Job description
Senior Schools CAMHS Practitioner (with responsibility for children who are excluded or at risk of being excluded)
(Clinical/ Counselling/Health/Educational Psychology, Family Psychotherapy, Child Psychotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Arts Therapist, Clinical Social Work or Community Mental Health Nurse).
This is a community-based post and will be part of the Bedford Integrated Schools Mental Health Pathway, with the broader service offering an early intervention service to schools across the whole locality.
We are looking for a dynamic and organised Practitioner to join our friendly and multi-disciplinary professional team. The post-holder will be offering comprehensive assessment and treatment to a variety of presentations. The post-holder will require a high degree of clinical skills, professional autonomy, self-management and drive with the ability to work well in a team and within the multi-agency environment.
This post is designed specifically to work alongside, and support the mental health needs of children and young people who CAMHs professionals struggle to engage within education, due to significant conduct related difficulties such as exclusion from mainstream schooling, anti-social and/or offending behaviour, safeguarding issues and conduct disorder.
The service will be delivered through Approved (SEMH) schools and mainstream schools within Bedford. The post-holder will provide comprehensive psychosocial assessments and individual and group therapeutic interventions using models such as NVR, DBT and multi-family groups, as well as staff training and consultation.
The post holder will be working with our community partners and will be fully integrated with community CAMHS and educational settings supporting multiple Schools across Bedford.
The service provides a holistic Thrive model of care, with the CAMH CAS offering the first two quadrants, Giving Advice and Getting Help, and where necessary, stepping up into our multi-disciplinary Getting More Help and Risk Management services.
This is a really exciting opportunity to develop pathways into CAMHS and the postholder will play a key role in working collaboratively with school staff to develop the skills and confidence to work with challenging/adverse behaviours, so that young people have a really good chance to thrive.
To support you in this role, you will receive regular, separate clinical and management supervision sessions, access to a variety of CPD sessions, and annual performance appraisals. The work of the team is managed and supervised by the Schools Pathway Team Operational Lead which is strongly supported by our experienced CAS Clinical Lead who is involved in all aspects of professional and service development.
The Senior Management Team within Bedfordshire & Luton CAMHS is committed to staff development and wellbeing: there are regular opportunities for staff to apply for appropriate training courses, including IAPT, and to get involved in quality improvement initiatives and new developments in the service.
The East London NHS Trust prioritizes staff wellbeing and we are introducing a range of staff wellbeing initiatives to support this. This post is based in Bedford.
The post holder will need to work and travel within schools across Bedford, as required, so it is essential they have the means to do this.
