Job description

Royal Museums Greenwich are seeking a Building Fabric Manager to join their Estates & Facilities Management team.

Royal Museums Greenwich (RMG) is a collection of diverse historical sites. The sites are the National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory, and the Queen’s House. Reporting to the Senior Estates Manager, the postholder is responsible for maintaining and improving the efficient running of all sites and multiple buildings across the Royal Museums Greenwich Estate.

Key elements of the role will involve stewardship of nationally significant buildings including scheduled monuments and buildings within a UNESCO World Heritage Site; ensuring statutory, regulatory compliance and best practices are achieved and maintained; supporting the delivery of the capital investment programme; and being the technical authority in all fabric and heritage matters for the museum operations.

Further core responsibilities include managing the planned prioritised maintenance (PPM) programme across the Museum’s estate, identifying projects and works including emergency repairs, reactive repairs, redecoration and small works with term and specialist contractors; ensuring value for money in achieved in all aspects of fabric and building works, contracts, and projects; and working closely with conservation department to ensure the continued maintenance and upkeep of listed buildings and scheduled ancient monuments.

The successful candidate will need to have demonstrable experience in construction or building maintenance at a management level and In-depth knowledge of building fabric maintenance practices, including inspection, repair, refurbishment techniques and reading construction drawings & O&M’s. As well as a proven track record of working with Grade I/II Listed Buildings and heritage estate.

The post holder is required to be an enthusiastic and dynamic person able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, communicate with internal and external stakeholders, and actively contribute to the Estates Management team’s work.
