Job description

About the Pub

The Carpenters Arms is a well-known country pub to the south of Bristol, on the outskirts of Dundry, just five miles from Bristol City Centre. The Carpenters Tavern is a one bar operation that services four individual areas with exposed beams and brickworks featuring throughout. The main public bar boasts a large open fireplace then continues to wrap around the restaurant area which is split across two levels. The restaurant can accommodate 80 covers and is supported by a fully fitted kitchen, with an additional carvery section. To provide an additional revenue stream the upper level could be utilised for a function space for private and live events. There is scope to convert three of the six private bedrooms into letting rooms, which will require some investment. Externally there is a lovely, grassed beer garden and patio which is furnished with picnic benches and benefits from excellent views across the Chew Valley. There is ample car parking to the side and rear of the pub with space for around 30 vehicles.

Regional Manager's Thoughts

The Carpenters Tavern is a pub that requires a publican to return it to its former glory. The pub has huge potential but needs the right operator to exploit its potential. There is an opportunity for a large investment here to reinstate the food offer and maximise the six bedrooms onsite, by converting three to letting rooms. I am ideally looking for an experienced food operator however will talk to anyone with the right aptitude and resources.

Surrounding Area

Dundry is a village in the English county of Somerset, in the northern part of the Mendip Hills, between Bristol and the Chew Valley. The Carpenters Arms is a traditional country pub, sitting right at the top of Dundry Hill, in green and pleasant surroundings. The pub is in a rural location but is easily accessible by road to Bristol, which is five miles away and is only five minutes’ drive to the largely residential suburb of Bishopsworth. Bristol Airport is also only 10 minutes away.
