The Growth Company (GC) have an exciting new opportunity for a Peer Mentor with first hand ‘lived experience’ of drink or drug misuse who will deliver a range of guidance and training services for people with substance misuse issues, contribute to individuals’ progression in recovery training and employment via the nurturing of a supportive, open, and professional mentor relationship.
We help to make a lasting difference to the lives of people throughout the North of England and beyond, by supporting individuals to gain meaningful employment. Our highly skilled advisers and keyworkers work with a range of individuals; from people who have found themselves recently out of work, to those with complex barriers such as physical disabilities, mental ill-health and debt.
Key Responsibilities:
Within a team, co-ordinate and deliver advice, guidance and training interventions that meet the needs of individual people with substance misuse issues.
Operate referral and liaison procedures with Jobcentre Plus and other agencies as required.
Nurture a professional, open honest and supportive relationship with the customer.
Support peoples’ achievements of skills and support their progression into or out of formal treatment support, training education and where appropriate employment.
Contribute to making contact and establishing relationships with new customers and assist them to understand the potential benefits of support services.
Identify individual needs inclusive of learning needs.
Deliver interventions for each client, face to face and digital.
Record discussions and training sessions and co-ordinate further activity with customer.
Provide support for the customer in implementing future courses of action.
Deliver further interventions with customers as required, assisting them to decide on options for meeting their needs and provide support for customers in planning a course of action.
Help prepare and develop resources to support progression and learning.
Facilitate learning in groups that improves employability and progression through presentations and activities.
Marketing, networking, and promotion of services to partner organisations and customers and manage relationships with colleagues and customers.
Carry out associated administration work including timely recording and input of information into a client recording system.
About you:
Experience of drug/alcohol issues treatment and support service.
Knowledge in relation to the issues affecting people in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction.
Good knowledge of welfare to work and Jobcentre Plus.
A warm, approachable empathetic style and the ability to establish a rapport and build relationships with customers in recovery from alcohol or drug addiction.
Local treatment and health providers, Support agencies and community resources/venues.
Essential Requirements:
An understanding of substance misuse including an element of ‘lived experience’ (which can include, extended family and loved ones and not limited to exclusively individual first-hand personal experience).
A desire to contribute to the continued improvement of services supporting people with drug or alcohol misuse; seeking to change lives for the better.
Motivated and keen with good communication skills.
Willing and able to read key documents/reports.
Ability to work to and well with others - personable and professional.
Ability to network and promote the organisation.
Emotionally resilient.
