Put people at the heart of every commissioning decision

About us

With a population of 700,000 to support, we are focussed on delivering the best life outcomes for every age group, and every area of need. As such, we have brought our local authority and health commissioning systems together in order to collaboratively plan, buy and monitor the delivery of exceptional education, health and social care services. This fresh approach will ensure even better results for our residents – and has led to various opportunities for forward-thinking individuals to join our team.

About the role

As a member of our Health, Education and Social Care Commissioning team, you will play an instrumental leadership role in our day-to-day commissioning, procurement and contract management activities. With a focus on helping us deliver the right services to every individual and ensuring value is being achieved, you will partner with operational and support services to manage the entire commissioning cycle. This will include ensuring performance targets are being met and identifying opportunities for service enhancement. You will also develop partnerships for joint commissioning opportunities.

This is an exciting opportunity to work across a number of key projects. While you will probably align with one key tier of need, you will have the flexibility to support a number of projects. The tiers of need are as follows: Promote and Prevent (in which you will help us build more resilient communities); Improve and Enable (in which you will support our ambitions to deliver targeted support to vulnerable people that will reduce their needs, or delay or prevent the need for intensive support); or Support and Protect (in which you will enhance our determination to support the vulnerable and those with long-term or chronic conditions).

About you

To thrive in our ambitious team, you will have the capacity to use relevant quantitative and qualitative data to create evidence-based commissioning recommendations or decisions. You should have at least two years of experience in a relevant role in which you have developed a comprehensive knowledge of the full commissioning cycle and commercial partnership opportunities as well as a degree-level qualification (or equivalent). With experience of designing and developing services and change management, you will also have a good awareness of legislation relating to safeguarding vulnerable adults and children.

We are looking for a highly analytical individual, with great IT and project management skills, and good commercial awareness. As a team-player who enjoys collaborating with others, you will bring a flexible approach to all that you do, and you will have well-developed verbal and written communication skills.

Rewards and benefits

It really is true that every single job role here contributes to bettering the lives of the people in our county - we want to do this for our employees too. We are proud of our strong flexible working culture, including the opportunity for flexibility on working hours and the use of technology to support agile working. We offer some of the very best learning and development opportunities to support your ongoing development.

We have a generous holiday allowance which rises as you remain in employment with us up to 33 days, as well as giving you the option to buy additional holiday. You will also have access to a Local Government Pension Scheme with employer contributions of up to 19.9% of your salary; a range of local and national retail discounts; and a host of enhanced family friendly policies including carers leave and paid time off for volunteering.
