Overview of the role:
As a result of growing demands for our award winning range of diesel engines, we are seeking a talented Principal P&E Calibration Engineer, who is looking for an opportunity to further their career at the cutting edge of powertrain control systems.
This role is based at our engine research and development centre in Derbyshire, UK.
Your Responsibilities as a P&E Calibration Engineer:
Candidates should have a track record in leading IC engine and aftertreatment calibration activities with experience of off-highway, heavy duty or automotive electric/electronic systems, including Tier I supplier engine management systems, model based engine control, interface tools & software.
Typical responsibilities include:
· Hardware development of emissions critical components:
o Compression and spark ignition combustion systems
o Fuel injection equipment
o Air handling (turbocharger and EGR systems)
o Aftertreatment (various NOx reduction technologies, PM PN filtration hardware)
· Calibration development and release:
o Base engine performance and emissions
o Aftertreatment performance and control – deNOx, DPF
o Aftertreatment and engine diagnostics
· Application of relevant legislation into hardware selection and calibration processes
· Delivery and management of work packages within the JCB NPIP process
· Coordinate test bed and machine engine calibration activities, including climatic testing, to meet 'Off-Highway' emissions and performance goals
Desired Skills and Experience:
· A strong engineering background and a Degree/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
· Familiarity with control strategy guide and software documentation is desired
· Candidate should have a strong interest and experience in emissions control technology
· Candidate should be familiar with dynamometer testing environment (control systems, test automation, emissions measurement)
· Experience in ‘application’ environment development and testing would be advantageous
· Familiarity with global emissions standards
· Familiarity with 1D engine simulation tools
· Familiarity with model-based calibration methods
