Job description
Duties and responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to: Assessing complex patients with a range of diagnoses and identify, develop and implement appropriate specialist rehabilitation programmes based on clear clinical reasoning. Demonstrate highly specialised knowledge and experience in a range of procedures and conditions underpinned by sound theory and evidence-based practice. Assessing and treating your own patient caseload, individually and/or in groups, as part of an inter- disciplinary team, in a variety of settings. Supporting the IDT (interdisciplinary team) in the interpretation of assessment results and recommendations based on clinical need as part of the larger rehabilitation process. To be skilled at assessing and interpreting a range of complex factors relating to the patient's condition which will impact on their ability to carry out their activities of daily living. Contributing to Activity of Daily Living (ADL) and employment-focused goal setting and action planning. Contributing to an effective and aspiration-focused pre-vocational / vocational OT input for Force Generation patients who require assistance with a return to military work (RTW), parallel career planning, and/or transition planning. Re-framing patients unhelpful perceptions of their function and/or work capacity and assist them with adjusting their plans to help optimise their ADL performance, military RTW, or their approach to the civilian job market. Contributing to the development of a specialist service and related policies. Supervising/managing students and other staff working in own specialist area. Being a highly effective communicator whilst demonstrating skills in empathy, reassurance and the ability to motivate others. Being responsible for assessing and advising on the provision of equipment to support patients. Liaising with external agencies. Maintaining up to date, accurate patient records in line with professional practice guidelines and produce specialist reports where appropriate. To follow The Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) guidelines, standards of practice and local policies in carrying out professional duties.
