Senior Sustainable Development Officer - Biodiversity

Following the outcome of the council’s Total Pay and Reward review the full-time salary from 1 April 2024 will be £37336 - £40221.

We seek a passionate and experienced ecological professional to join the Sustainable Development Team helping us to protect and enhance the natural environment of East Riding of Yorkshire.

Duties include supporting the council’s ‘Valuing the Environment’ priority and developing new initiatives established by the Environment Act.

You will provide ecological expertise to support the council’s effective delivery of services, developing and delivering corporate policy and guidance to ensure that the council remains compliant with current and emerging environmental legislation, whilst supporting the implementation of the Environment Bill within East Riding of Yorkshire.

This post will put you at the heart of a dynamic and progressive department which is critical in supporting the delivery of key council strategies including the Climate Change Strategy and Local Nature Recovery Strategy. An essential part of the role is providing support to communities, businesses and corporate and external partners to address key opportunities and threats related to the natural environment and biodiversity of East Riding of Yorkshire, including nature recovery, natural capital and preventing the spread of invasive non-native species.

You should be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject and have a thorough understanding of legislation, guidance and best practice associated with biodiversity and the natural environment.

Based at County Hall, Beverley for 37 hours per week however you will be required to travel to locations inside and outside of East Riding of Yorkshire on occasions.

The post is permanent and full-time hours are preferred however part-time hours will be considered.
