Job description

Dream Big Independent Living supports young people towards independent living through supported accommodation.

As a Support Worker you would be providing support for young care leavers aged 16 - 25 and helping them reach their full potential.
We believe that every child has the right to dream big and be supported into a successful transition from childhood to adulthood regardless of their social - economic background, social disadvantages or circumstances. We believe young people are most likely to reach their full potential when treated with dignity & respect in a home environment with support and emotional warmth.

Support worker role:
- Engage in key work sessions based upon the young person’s individual support needs

-Support young people to develop budgeting and financial management of their weekly allowance to develop cooking skills, weekly shopping etc.

-Support young people to developing routines and boundaries - address challenging behaviour in a non-confrontational and nurturing manner.

-Support young people with registering with GP, other health services, registering and attending with education / training and apprenticeship.

-Maintain a record of all daily activities and maintain log book and visitor’s book at the property whilst on duty.

-Prepare high standard monthly progress reports regarding the young person’s progress.

-Support with preparations towards independent living - securing job/apprenticeship, apply for benefits, complete housing application etc.

-Accompany young people to attend appointments and activities where necessary until they develop their own independent skills.

-Ensure boundaries, home rules and curfews are adhered to at the placement by young people.

-Remind and encourage young people to keep their rooms tidy and clean, also clean common areas clean after use.

-General administrative tasks - emails, maintaining telephone communication, filing and record keeping.

- Focus on developing their self confidence and esteem through therapeutic practices ( Therapeutic training will be given to all support workers)

Requirements:
-Have experience in working with challenging young people.

-Must have experience working with young people aged 16 to 25 years old in similar supportive role either in residential units or within the community.

-Be able to identify areas where our young people can be better supported.

-Have good verbal communication skill / English language skills to engage with young people, challenge them where necessary and have a natural flair to communicate and engage with young people.

-Be able to work as part of the team - following management directions and be able to seek management advice where necessary.

Needed Qualifications:
- Relevant qualifications in Health and Social Care, Youth Offending or within education

Work Location: One location - Croydon, London

Shifts available:
- Morning
- Full day
- Sleeping Nights
- Weekends

Working Options Available:
Full Time
Part-time

Pay: £10.00-£11.00 per hour
