Key elements:

This will involve:

Service Provision

          To be responsible for the organisation of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards service.

          To ensure requests for DOLS authorisations are managed in a timely and appropriate manner.

          To ensure activities under DOLS Procedures are processed to the appropriate Supervisory Body e.g Local Authority.

          To undertake Best Interest Assessments, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.

          To ensure records and returns are managed efficiently and effectively.

Service Development & Promotion

          To support and give advice to colleagues who are undertaking Best Interest Assessments.

          To lead on promoting understanding of Deprivation of Liberty  Safeguards, and the significance  of the process in safeguarding residents of care homes, and hospital patients.

          To lead, and contribute to, the promotion of best practice in embedding the principles and standards of the Mental Capacity Act in service provision across the borough.

          To raise awareness and disseminate knowledge and information on the Mental Capacity Act and DOLS within the borough.

          To contribute to the development, and where  appropriate, the provision, of training programmes, workshops, seminars and events for staff, service users, carers and partner  agencies.

          To support front-line staff including guiding them   through statutory responsibilities in areas relating to risk & safety.

          To promote intervention which ensures that respect for diversity is integral to service delivery.

          To work  with  contractors, commissioners and  care providers to raise standards  and  support the management of  risk, that  accords  with  the  Mental  Capacity  Act  and  the  Deprivation of  Liberty Safeguards.

          To work   with   colleagues   to   ensure   that   the   application of   DOLS and   the   MCA, support developments to safeguard adults at risk from abuse and neglect.

          To undertake project work as required, and contribute to the Functional Unit’s/Community Care Service’s development processes.

          To ensure that service users’ carers/support networks, formal representatives and advocates are able to participate as required in all decisions about care and support.

Qualifications:

          Professional Social Work, qualification as recognised by the HCPC

          Current HCPC registration

          Recent post qualification study

          Evidence of CPD

          Best Interest Assessor qualification 

          3 years post qualifying experience in health and/or social care setting.

Experience

          Experience of supervising students and/or staff in a statutory front-line social care or health setting. 

          Proven supervision skills, utilising a Reflective Model of practice.

          Evidence of developing and maintaining good working practices with a wide range of customers and other stakeholders. 

          Experience of representing the service at multi-agency forums, making informed, sound decisions. 

          Experience of working effectively in a high pressure environment.

          Experience of working with Adult service users and Carers.

          Experience of managing complex cases and risk assessments.

          Experience of safeguarding work including chairing of meetings.

          Experience of work in relation to Mental Capacity and best interest decision making.

          Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary inter-agency framework

          Experience of meeting performance targets and delivering service outcomes
