Job description

Ringway Jacobs are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Engineer to join the structures team in Chelmsford. The successful applicant will have a strong analytical background and be responsible for undertaking the design of highway structure replacement, strengthening, refurbishment projects and assessments. Working with the Team Leader and supervising junior members of staff, the role requires a background in highway structure work and a demonstrable track record in project delivery.

Reporting to the Team Leader, the Engineer will be responsible for the planning, coordination and management of the schemes allocated. The work will require collaboration with other internal parties and third party stakeholders – relationship building is a key component of the role.

The Role

-Preparation of design, plan, programme highway structures works and services.
-Provide clear and effective project leadership.
-Providing assistance in the management and monitoring of works programmes or services.
-Mentoring junior staff and check their work
-Provide assistance to the Team Leader in relation to all aspects covered within the group and deputise in their absence.
-To assist in budgetary control and ensure that financial management is undertaken throughout areas of responsibility.
-To prepare monthly progress reports and programme updates
-To support Team Leader in providing timely and accurate advice to County Councillors, District Members, Parish Councils and the general public on all structures-related matters as required.
-Support Health and Safety, Environmental Management System, Quality Management System and Construction Design Management in a positive and constructive manner, with the aim of minimising work related injuries by implementing Essex Highways policies and procedures.
-Understands the overall functions, aims and directions of Essex Highways, and how the structures service fits into those objectives.

About You

-Design Expertise with Eurocodes and modern standards, DMRB
-Working knowledge of preparation of contract specifications, use of MCHW
-Extensive knowledge and application of Highway Legislation, relevant structures design procedures, standards and good practice.
-Knowledge and experience of budgetary governance, management and control measures.
-Knowledge and application of Health and Safety legislation including Construction (Design & Management) Regulations
Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent high level qualification, or significant experience in Structures.
-Membership of or working towards membership of a relevant Professional Institution (ICE, IStructE).
-The candidate will have experience working on the delivery of highway structures schemes.
-The candidate shall have recent experience of leading and mentoring junior engineers in the delivery of highway structures projects.
