Purpose of Role
To join McLaren Automotive EDS team and design and package all vehicle electronic/electrical systems including power distribution and electrical connectivity within the EDS discipline for McLaren next generation supercars.
Principal Accountabilities
- Create 3D designs for low voltage wiring harnesses and power and ground distribution considering weight, safety, space, cost, DFM, assembly, quality, and EMC requirements
- Responsible for 3D packaging for complete low voltage electrical system including ADAS, cameras, antennae, sensors, control units, network, and infotainment modules
- Design brackets, trays, enclosures, grommets, and other components to support wiring harness design and electrical modules packaging
- Design innovative and robust solutions that meet McLaren design standards
- Collaboration with other function groups and represent the EDS department within the project team, reporting information, concerns, and milestone achievements from the department to the project and vice versa
- Production release of the electrical package and low voltage wiring systems
- Support all phases of vehicle builds from first prototypes to production
- Support creation of design guides and processes to ensure correct McLaren standards are applied
- External supplier engagement and governance
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Proficiency in CATIA V5 – part design, GSD, assembly design and electrical workbenches
- Experience with wiring harness design, electrical packaging, sheet metal design and injection moulding
- Experience within the automotive industry or similar domain experience
- Good understanding of automotive electrical packaging concepts and mechanical interfaces
- Good understanding of automotive materials and NVH
- Automotive market trend knowledge and experience of business model development (e.g., make vs buy)
- Good understanding of GD&T and drawings creation
