About the Role

Base Location : Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness

Salary: £45,400 – £68,200 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible working options available

What is the Role?

We’re looking to recruit a highly motivated, energetic, passionate and experienced External Relations Manager. You’ll be responsible for proactively supporting the development and delivery of the major capital investment projects in the north of Scotland electricity transmission network that are required to support the transition to a net zero and energy secure future in line with the UK and Scottish Governments’ climate change and energy security targets.

Key responsibilities for this role will include:

– Effectively and proactively developing and executing integrated external communications and engagement plans including to help support consenting strategies for SSEN Transmission.

– Building, promoting and enhancing the profile, aims, values and reputation of the business through external engagement, communications, public and media relations.

– Proactively protecting and enhancing the reputation of SSEN Transmission with key stakeholders, from our regulator, governments and elected representatives; to the communities we serve, the customers connected to our network and wider industry stakeholders.

– Working with colleagues across the Corporate Affairs team and wider transmission business to contribute to the delivery of key strategic objectives, including the success of project development consent decisions.

– Proactively build and enhance relationships with key local stakeholders and decision makers, particularly Local and National Governments and Elected Members, acting as a trusted point of contact for SSEN Transmission, as well as advising and briefing senior business leaders on project development strategies and risk mitigation plans.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

– Exceptional communication, engagement and media skills and experience including, both written and verbal, to communicate the positive contribution that SSEN Transmission is making to the social, environmental and economic wellbeing of the regions in which the company is operating.

– First class interpersonal skills enabling you to build and maintain strong working relationships internally and externally whilst clearly explaining complex issues in a simple and compelling way to build credibility and trust with external stakeholders and within the business.

– Demonstrable experience of external engagement with key stakeholders, particularly local and national elected members, with a passion and detailed understanding of local and national politics that could impact/affect SSEN Transmission project developments.

– A background in the energy industry would be preferred.
