Job description

Permanent, full time from September 2024

Classics at the RGS is a popular subject with pupils achieving excellent results in public examinations; in recent years over 90% of pupils have achieved Grades 8 or 9 at GCSE Latin and Greek and the vast majority of pupils achieved Grades A or A* at Latin and Greek A Level.

There are currently seven members of the Classics department teaching Latin, Greek and Ancient History; the successful candidate will teach Latin from the First Form (Yr 7) through to A-level and there will also be the opportunity to teach Greek and Ancient History. Ancient History is only studied in the Sixth Form.

The department runs thriving junior and senior Classics Societies as well as trips to Greece, Sicily and Italy where students can see first hand what they have studied in the classroom.

We are looking for an enthusiastic new member of our team who will enjoy sharing their passion for the Classics with our students. You will have a Classics degree with Latin, but teaching experience is not essential as we offer full support to gain qualified teacher status.
