Personal Care Assistant to assist with a variety of tasks which will enable/assist a non-verbal 32 year old male with Severe Learning Disability, Autism and Complex Partial Epilepsy who needs care and support to live their personal and social life according to their wishes and interests.

This role involves overnight support.

We have a team of 4 Personal Assistants working on a rota basis to support the clients care within his own home in Spennymoor, County Durham.

The client requires 24hr care 1:1, with 2:1 support between the hours of 9am and 6pm.

The client is able bodied but with complex needs relating to his severe learning difficulties and Autism. He lives next door to his parents, and enjoys a life incorporating of day-time activities such as visiting the shops, bowling, swimming and walks, as well as attending family events such as evening meals.

Social duties , for example, support to:

Visit family Attend family meals and events Attend medical appointments Undertake activities such as walks, shopping, bowling and swimming

Personal care , support with bathing, showering, shaving, teeth cleaning, dressing, and administering medication.

Domestic duties , for example, support with grocery shopping, cooking and serving nutritious meals and snacks, cleaning, changing linen, laundry, ironing and gardening.

These duties may vary from day-to-day.

Type of person that we are looking for:

Values , honest, reliable, punctual, non-judgemental, ability to build good relationships based on trust and respect, flexible, adaptable, easy going, able to work alone, positive, willingness to travel, understands equality and diversity and has a good sense of humour. Specific requirements , experience of working with adults with Autism and learning difficulties.

You will be supported during your first few weeks by working only during the clients 2:1 hours, working alongside an experienced PA until you and the employer are comfortable that you have been fully inducted and have the appropriate familiarity with the client.

Hours of work:

This role is part-time contracted to 89 hours per 4-week period (22.25 hours per week on average), with the possibility of overtime, on rota system with four other staff. The successful candidate will be flexible to work evenings, weekends and sleepover shifts where required.

A rota week may comprise of:

· Early shifts 0900 – 1800· Late shifts 1700 - 2300· Long shifts 0900 – 2300· Night shifts 2300 – 0900

These shifts can follow in immediate consecutive order, for example you could work a combination of Long, Night, Early (0900 – 2300, 2300 – 0900, 0900 – 1800).

Rate of pay:

£12 per hour

Skills, qualifications and experience:


Essential :
driving licence car and appropriate insurance (although a works vehicle is provided whilst on-shift) knowledge of Autism and learning difficulties able to swim confidentiality good at building relationships

Preferred :
good communicator a good listener able to tolerate pets (cats/dogs) a good sense of humour

A DBS is essential prior to employment and the cost of this will be met by the employer
