We are looking for an experienced Child &Adolescent Psychotherapist to join us in a seniorrole (8a) fulltime in our Child in Care Team pathway, providing mental healthprovision to children and young people in care. Ideally this role would bebased in South Devon / Torbay with the ability to travel to and work in Exeterone day per week.

Main duties of the job

As a SeniorChild & Adolescent Psychotherapist, you will be offering high-qualitycomplex assessments and psychotherapy to children and young people in care,their families where appropriate, and their professional networks. You willbring advanced assessment, formulation, therapy and consultative skills to thepathway as well as applying your specialist knowledge to wider servicedevelopment contributions.

There will be CPD opportunities to support your development and acommitment to supporting your career progression at this stage in relation toconsolidating your supervisory role and leadership skills as well as furtherexpanding your clinical knowledge and skills.

You will have regular clinical supervision and separate line management.You will be supported with a job plan with opportunities to use a breadth ofskills including research and service development. There is a growing, friendlynetwork of Child & Adolescent Psychotherapists working across CFHD with anew Principal CAPT also joining us, bringing increasing opportunities for sharedCPD and professional support. We are committed to supporting the growth of theprofession and the provision of Trainee placements.

About us

Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) comprises an Alliance of NHS organisations working together to improve health outcomes for children and young people in Devon.

CFHD provides integrated care and treatment for children and young people across physical and mental health which are provided by Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust and Devon Partnership Trust. We are working closely with other organisations and providers to ensure we deliver locality and county-wide based integrated access to all of our services, based on the i-Thrive Framework.

CFHD works closely with our local universities of Plymouth, Exeter & the Peninsula Medical School where we support students in clinical training placements and in addition support our own staff to undertake post graduate training.

Our integrated care and treatment has been developed and refined in partnership with children, young people and their families/carers.

Job responsibilities

You will be a qualified and experienced Child and AdolescentPsychotherapist ready to move into a Senior role. You will have a passion forworking with children, young people and families with complex needs. You willhave the knowledge and skills to undertake complex assessments and deliver skilfulpsychotherapy interventions. You will have experience in supporting thedevelopment of others through supervision and training and be keen to furtherdevelop this. You will be a reflective practitioner with strengths to bring toa multi-disciplinary team and consultative work. You will be committed toservice user participation and collaborative working with children, youngpeople, parents, carers and families. You will have a good understanding ofsafeguarding across the lifespan and be able to assess and respond to clinical andsafeguarding risks as needed. You will be motivated to further develop your leadershipskills to contribute to quality improvement and service development within yourpathway and the wider service.

Child in Care Team

The appointed Senior Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist will join a county-widemulti-disciplinary team of enthusiastic, motivated, and committed professionalsfrom a wide variety of disciplines eager to include Child and Adolescent Psychotherapyin the mix. The team keeps the experience of the child or young person atthe heart of all assessments, interventions, and consultations.

The Child in Care team is part of a Child and Family Health pathwayfocussing on the needs of children and young people who usually have highnumbers of adverse childhood experiences and present in a complex way(Addressing Adverse Childhood Experiences Pathway). Within this pathway we link with colleaguesfrom Child in Care Nursing and the services for young people with Drug andAlcohol (ab)use and Youth Justice as well as the local Secure ChildrensHome. Within wider CFHD we link withother pathways such as: locality CAMHS, Neurodiversity, Learning Disability,Communication and Interaction. Outsideof CFHD our primary links are with the two local Social Services departments(Devon and Torbay) as well as schools, paediatricians, and GPs. An interest in, and experience of, multi-disciplinaryand multi-agency working is therefore crucial to the role.

The Child in Care team currently provides initial mental healthassessments for children and young people in to care and consultations to thesystems around the child. Moving forwardwe shall also be providing direct therapeutic interventions for some childrenand young people in care. We have anemphasis on using evidence-based interventions where there is an evidence-base (andincreasing the evidence-base where there isnt). We will be looking at when and how it ispossible to provide therapeutic interventions (including psychotherapy) forchildren and young people even if the ideal settled context is notpresent.

Within the team you will contribute to case discussions, bring yourspecific knowledge and skills to formulation discussions, offer supervision andconsultation, and of course offer child and adolescent psychotherapy to somechildren and young people in care. Therewill be an opportunity to develop specialist areas of interest such as workingwith babies and very young children; unaccompanied asylum-seeking children andyoung people; neurodiversity or anything else relevant to the needs of childrenand young people in care. There will also be opportunities to offer supervisionin the pathway. You willbe willing to provide clinical supervision to Trainee Psychotherapists as wellas Band 7 colleagues (where there are posts) and colleagues from otherdisciplines and other parts of the pathway where appropriate.

As aSenior Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, you will require a high degree ofprofessional autonomy and self-management. You will use your clinicalleadership, audit and research skills to take a lead in areas of servicedevelopment to support a culture of quality improvement. Within Child andFamily Health Devon there is a thriving research community and recently we havetaken part in national research projects about mindfulness; parent-ledinterventions in anxiety; and PTSD in Children in Care. You will contribute to team discussionsand complex case consultations, bringing formulation skills as well asknowledge and experience to support the team processes, reflections, andformulation.

Ideallyyou will provide leadership in the South Devon and Torbay locality for the Childin Care Team with support from the Principal Clinical Psychologist (ClinicalLead) and Managers and a Senior Mental Health Practitioner (still to beappointed).
