Roles and Responsibilities
The Electronic Engineering Leader is functional and technical manager to the hardware engineering teams engaged in the design, development, and qualification of electronic and electrical product solutions within the Power Distribution and Controls engineering organisation. Your responsibilities will be to:
- Provide functional leadership and technical direction to your team – ensure adherence to company, regulatory and functional processes and procedures.
- Define roles and responsibilities for your team, establishing priorities for staff in your team that align with company and divisional objectives.
- Coordinate efforts within your team to assure technical quality excellence, timely and on-budget completion of work, effective use of resources and responsiveness to customer / program needs.
- Promote professional growth through timely performance feedback, ongoing coaching, conducting appraisals, performance management and participate in salary planning.
- Manage resource supply and demand for your team, including recruitment of permanent staff, placement of work at GE global sites and outsource of work packages to suppliers.
- Facilitate communication of technical and business information between organisations and within your team
- Communicate with, and provide support to senior leaders on technical, organizational, resource and staff issues.
- Work with the New Business group to plan and cost proposals for new projects.
- Guide the team to embrace an innovative approach to problem solving and design implementation by driving a Lean focus into your team.
- Ensure company compliance training requirements are implemented within your team.
Required Qualifications
- Relevant degree or equivalent qualification
- Demonstrable experience in a project leadership or new product introduction role across the full life cycle within an electronic design field, preferably within an aerospace context
- Demonstrated functional and line management experience.
- Strong knowledge of electronic product design and development activities or processes including exposure to design for manufacture & prototyping methodologies
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, leadership and team-building skills
Desired Characteristics
- Understanding of regulatory requirements for aerospace electrical/electronic design
- An understanding of regulatory and safety requirements for safety critical products (ideally gained in an avionics or similar environment)
- Exposure to lean techniques and tools in a design environment
- Formal Management training with effective team building and project management ability.
