Job description

What you will do in your working day

As an Apprentice Power System Engineer, you will join the Strategic Energy Planning team and Engineering Solutions team in Warwick, contributing to developing the future energy system and connecting our customers into our system. Depending on the requirements of the team you are working alongside, opportunities may include creating, developing and informing our understanding of future challenges, looking at potential solutions in technical, economic and market fronts.

Key tasks:


Upon successful completion of the programme, you will join relevant team working with external stakeholders such as Transmission Owner, Distribution Network Operators, Generators, and wider industry players.

The training you will be getting

You will be placed into a team within the Strategic Energy Planning team and Engineering Solutions team in which you will learn from experts around you and be allocated tasks as you grow in knowledge and confidence.

During your 2 year programme you will study on site at Loughborough College via block learning. Each year comprises of 2 semesters and there are 16 weeks of block learning per year. This means that from Sept - May in year 1 and year 2, you will attend Loughborough College for blocks of up to 3 days with your group of trainees, typically Mon - Wednesday. We will cover your travel and hotel expenses.

At the end of the 2 year programme of learning to deliver the EPNE (Electrical Power Network Engineer) competencies, you will undertake a 3 part assessment which will complete your course.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Upon successful completion of the programme, you will be appointed into team within Strategic Energy Planning team and Engineering Solutions, in a Level 6 power system engineering role working with external stakeholders such as Transmission Owner, Distribution Network Operators, Generators, and wider industry players.

For those who wish to continue their studies, we have educational support schemes in which you would join Year 2 of a BSc in Engineering.

Qualifications

GCSE or equivalent 5 GCSES (or equivalent) incl. Maths and English (Grade 4 and above) Essential
A Level or equivalent 2 A-Levels in Maths and a Science (Grade A* - C) Desired
