Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

Full time (10 PA) substantive post

Department of Child & Adolescent Mental Health at Royal Free Hampstead site

This is for 1 x 10PA Substantive CAMHS Consultant posts which are part of the generic Tier 3 multidisciplinary team at the Royal Free Hospital. The post holders will work with other Consultant and junior doctor colleagues, providing psychiatric assessment and management of cases within the ADHD Service, and will also contribute materially to the daytime on call rota. The post holders will be part of the clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team and offer consultation to other professional and agencies and facilitate the development of the team and wider service.

There will be a particular focus on ADHD and on contributing to the daytime on call rota.

The service currently comprises 2 multidisciplinary Teams: a Liaison and Generic Team with a strong Neurodevelopmental component and significant and innovative emergency activity, and an Eating Disorder specialist team. Currently the staff is 4.6 wte consultant child psychiatrists; 1 core trainee in psychiatry (CT1-3); 1 higher specialty trainee (ST4-6) in child and adolescent psychiatry and a large and very experienced multi-disciplinary team.

The Royal Free is busy with CAMHS emergency work, in and out of hours. The daytime emergency work is covered by liaison nurses, junior doctors and consultants. The post holder would also be expected to support and work closely with the innovative OOH nursing team, which covers 5 boroughs.

The neurodevelopment work comprises autism and ADHD care pathways. The post-holder would be expected to participate in multidisciplinary assessment of children and young people with suspected ADHD and to maintain a treatment caseload of children and young people with ADHD, monitoring use of medication and other treatments as appropriate.

This post is based within the ADHD Service at CAMHS, Royal Free Hospital, Pond St, London NW3 2QG. The post-holders will provide clinical duties within the wider service together with other Consultant and junior doctor colleagues, including sharing responsibility for the daytime on call rota.

The role of the consultant will be to provide psychiatric assessment and treatment where appropriate, contribute a psychiatric perspective, provide senior clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, offer consultation to other professionals and agencies and facilitate the development of the team and wider service. Each team comprises a full range of CAMHS disciplines including child psychotherapy, clinical psychology, family therapy and nursing in addition to child and adolescent psychiatry
