Job description
Our client is a constantly evolving company that started in 2009. In the last 15 years, they have grown from strength to strength and are looking for a Head of Design to join their friendly and welcoming team. They have completed small works and major works on projects ranging from residential building refurbishments to large sporting sites and retail complexes.
Your role will be;
To work in an efficient design department and ensure output is technically correct and on time. Helping innovate and develop the design department. solution specific to each project. This will be done by ensuring compliance to the client s recommendations/requirements and company procedures. Will be responsible for tasks relating to the project, instructed, and reporting to the Design/Technical Director.
- Implementing design process into the department.
- Oversee and aid in the production of design programmes. (Coordination with Director)
- Ensuring the company is adhering to all current legislation and compliance. (Coordination with Director)
- Hold daily progress meetings with Design Managers and Designers for their relevant projects. Ensure the programme is being achieved and report to the technical director and operations director with any potential issues.
- Liaison with sub–contractors and suppliers including the issue of drawings, scope of works, arranging meetings, communications, checking & issuing of drawings including final sign–off for procurement/manufacture.
- Attending meetings with the other heads of departments.
- Liaising with other heads of departments to cross–analyse strategy and interdepartmental progression.
- Attending tender meetings with the pre–construction team to ensure technical solutions are being presented and considered as early in the scheme as possible.
- To Oversee and Manage the design team functionality of the business.
- Close collaboration with design managers, designers, and document controllers to build and develop relations with the design department and with other departments within the business.
- Closely collaborate with the Design and Technical Director on design workload and department resource requirements.
- Daily management of the design team and their tasks to facilitate the business needs developing and managing the design reporting of the business.
- Oversee production of all technical submittals
- Assist with developing the design team's technical ability and design functionality.
- Supporting the design managers with their roles and reporting procedures
- Collaborate with the Design and Technical Director on design workload and department resource requirements.
- Collaborate with the Operations Director in developing the design support of the business.
- Assist with Design and Technical Proposals where required for projects.
- Any other reasonable duties that are required of the Managing Director, Technical Director, and Operations Director to support the business needs as and when required.
Experience/Requirements
- Knowledge Or experience with multiple fa??ade & roofing systems including their applications
- Knowledge and experience of current regulations and legislation requirements including the New Gateway 2 & 3 Requirements as well as an understanding of the current Building Safety Act and how this interacts with the New Gateways
- Knowledge of PAS 9980
- Extensive knowledge of design including any current building regs and CWCT Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of facades experience
- Ideally degree educated, HND or equivalent, ideally in a design or construction–related subject.
- Previous Experience Managing a design team
