Payroll Officer (part time)

Job description
Main areas of responsibility:
* Act as the primary recipient of Payroll related reporting data requests. Using Business Objects, Microsoft Excel, and other Payroll systems to independently provide, sometimes, complex reports in response to requests relating to internal or external requirements.
* To support the running of the payroll systems (Resourcelink - RL) and VT2000 (VTS) providing support in their maintenance and development. Assessing release notes and making recommendations on functionality that is needed to be taken, liaising with the HR Systems team as required, who act as the system administrator, facilitating the diagnosis and resolution of complex faults, and suggesting solutions to Payroll Manager and Deputy the Payroll Information and Systems Adviser as appropriate.
* To lead on and manage straightforward projects and contribute proactively to those more complex projects within Payroll with a particular emphasis on improving systems and processes, procedures, and information in Payroll, as well as contribute to cross Payroll projects, in line with organisational need. To develop and present findings, suggesting solutions which support process improvement. To accompany or substitute for more senior colleagues on wider university systems and information groups as appropriate.
* To develop, implement and maintain a programme of data quality checking across all relevant Payroll systems and data sources. To report on integrity, consistency, and accuracy of data, liaising with others across Payroll and Finance to ensure awareness of appropriate data quality standards, checking that these are in place and maintained, escalating any identified issues as required.
* Develop systems and processes to ensure that all Payroll related queries and instructions have been dealt with, in a timely manner, to prevent over and underpayments. Identifying areas of change, reviewing, and making proposals for the streamlining of processes as appropriate.
* Updating and maintaining payroll SharePoint.
* To provide a backup for the monitoring and triage of the payroll systems helpdesk email inbox. Provide technical level support, dealing with queries within the postholders remit, pro-actively identify recurring issues and/or systems defects, liaise with other payroll staff members and/or finance staff to identify solutions and suggest developments.
