Group CEO

Eden Project

Location

Cornwall | United Kingdom

Job description

Built in an abandoned china clay pit twenty two years ago, the Eden Project in Cornwall has become a living theatre of plants and people, and a powerful symbol of hope for the future. Its huge geodesic biomes, its public stages and delightful gardens full of science and art, showcase our interconnection with nature and demonstrate how imagination and ingenuity can transform ugliness into beauty, regenerating landscapes and livelihoods.

But the Eden Project encompasses far more than one destination. We are nurturing future generations of environmentalists through our substantial education and training programmes, we are driving innovations in sustainable energy through our geothermal initiative, and we are restoring biodiversity through the National Wildflower Centre. We created and manage The Big Lunch, which brings together millions of people each year. We are a trusted convenor of global thinkers and leaders, evidenced by our hosting of the G7 summit in 2021, and of Anthropy - inspiring a better Britain - in 2022 and 2023. Our impact has been noticed far beyond Cornwall: our teams have worked closely with local and national governments around the world to share our philosophy and design expertise. At home in the UK, Eden Morecambe and Eden Dundee are well underway.

We are seeking an ambitious and inspirational Group Chief Executive Officer who will build on these remarkable achievements, so that we successfully expand our reach, our influence and our impact.

The Eden Project is owned by The Eden Trust. Reporting to its Chair and Board of Trustees, the Group CEO has direct responsibility for the effective and efficient running of the Trust. Acting as an ambassador and advocate, internally and to the wider world, you will inspire and motivate staff and stakeholders. Supported by the Executive Team, you will continue to develop Eden’s strategy, diversify our income and strengthen our commercial activities, while simultaneously ensuring that we substantially increase our activities so that we can truly help to make the world a better place.

The Group CEO will need to demonstrate credibility in, and passion for, environmental issues. You will be an experienced, strategic leader, who may already have been operating at a senior level within, or leading, a complex, multi-site organisation. You will have an international and entrepreneurial mindset and be able to identify and prioritise opportunities for partnerships and growth.  Your values should be our values, including a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter, detailing how you fulfil the role description and personal specification to Perrett Laver: Group CEO quoting reference 7163. The deadline for applications is 9am GMT Monday 25 th March 2024.

The role is based primarily in Cornwall with UK and some international travel and the salary is competitive for the seniority of the position.

Perrett Laver will conduct an executive search process in parallel with the public advertisement of the role. Longlisted candidates will be invited to interview with Perrett Laver in mid-late April and the Selection Panel will subsequently meet to decide upon a final shortlist for the post, following which, interviews with the Eden Trust will take place in May. If you require any reasonable adjustments to assist you in the selection process, please advise us of these so that we can make appropriate arrangements.
