Head Veterinary Nurse

Martin Vets, Southbank Marina

Salary up to £32,000 depending on experience plus a relocation allowance up to £1,000

Here at Martin Vets, we are looking for a forward-thinking Head Veterinary Nurse who has innovative ideas on how to develop a nursing team. Our ideal candidate will recognise the privileged position we hold as veterinary professionals while bringing an enthusiasm to the role. Experience in aspects of health and safety as well as fire safety would be encouraged and current training as RPS would be beneficial.

The role will include:

• Managerial and clinical work
• Develop client facing clinical aspects of nurse role such as nurse clinics.
• Effectively manage nurse rotas to maximise utilisation of individuals skills and interests.
• Assist in training of Student Veterinary Nurses and Veterinary Care Assistants.
• Laisse with all roles within the practice to enable smooth running of day-to-day clinical work.
• To attend management meetings, both locally and at an area/regional level, as well as run local nurse team meetings.
• Perform routine performance reviews with all members of nursing team.
• Develop and drive hygiene practices within the surgery.
• Have a proven track record in developing client and patient care particularly improving and driving inpatient care.
• Stock control of both consumables and drugs with an ordering role.
• Management of controlled drugs.
• Effectively manage equipment maintenance and purchasing.
• Developing practice SOPs with an eye on SVN training and PSS assessments.

About our practice

The practice has been established in the communities of Kirkintilloch and Lenzie for over 40 years. Martin Vets is located in a picturesque location on the banks of the Forth and Clyde canal within walking distance of public transport as well as excellent road links throughout the central belt of Scotland. While only 8 miles from the centre of Glasgow, Kirkintilloch is perfectly located for access to the Campsie Fells and beyond.

We benefit from plenty of free on-street parking as well as demarcated parking for clients.

The building itself was voted overall winner of the Veterinary Practice Design awards in 2013 and benefits from copious natural light benefiting from floor to ceiling windows.

We have 4 consulting rooms, a welcoming, bright waiting room, central prep room with lab, 2 theatres, separate x-ray room and dedicated dental suite, separate large dog, and cat wards as well as an isolation room.

Currently we have 23 staff including 9 Veterinary Surgeons, 4 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 1 Student Veterinary Nurse, 1 Veterinary Care Assistant, 1 Domestic Assistant, 1 Practice Manager and 6 Reception/Admin Staff.

We have stable staff, many of whom have been with the practice for many years and live within the local area. We pride ourselves on providing the best possible client and patient experience shown by a large, very loyal client base.
