About the Role

Base Location: Atwick / Aldbrough Energy Storage Facilities

Salary: £53,100 – £79,700 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

SSE Thermal are recruiting a Cyber Security Engineer to support its Gas Storage Facilities.

The Cyber Security Engineer role encompasses the delivery of a digital asset alongside the physical asset at each Gas Storage facility, supporting delivery of the business asset management objectives. With a particular emphasis on cyber security, you will help protect and develop our people, premises, and digital systems to ensure the business is fully compliant with all current requirements.

Reporting directly to the Asset Manager, you will be the primary contact for Operational Technology (OT) Cyber Security and the site lead for digital projects/improvements, providing concise communication to all stakeholders and support delivery of value adding projects.

Key Responsibilities:

– In conjunction with the OT Security team within Thermal Engineering and Asset Management (TEAM), ensure Operational Technology assets are compliant to HSE and NIS cyber regulations.

– Application of the Thermal OT risk Management processes are applied, including establishment and implementation of Incident Response and Disaster Recovery Plans.

– Maintain awareness of vulnerabilities on OT assets is understood and mitigation thereof (operating system, control system applications and down to controller (PLC) level).

– Development of OT improvement and obsolescence management plan ensuring maintenance of the OT asset register and updating of the security products associated with the OT assets on sites.

– Ensuring all Gas Storage projects are assessed for OT cyber security issues and fully integrated into the Management System.

– Business lead on Functional Safety and ATEX application. Experienced at applying standards such as 61508, 61511 and 60079.

– Working with stakeholders both on site and externally, for implementation of digital tools and techniques, to deliver on SSE Thermal’s digital vision.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would like you to have:

– Relevant Degree (i.e. OT, Industrial Computing, C&I, Process Controls) or equivalent experience.

– Experience of Cyber-Security/Digital Engineering in an Operational environment, preferably within the Storage/Energy industry.

– Thorough understanding of the regulatory requirements for OT cyber security and ability to translate those requirements into physical deliverables on site.

– Experience of developing cyber counter measures and contingency plans associated with significant delivery risk.

– Understanding of the application of digital technology in a Gas Storage/Engineering environment to enhance reliability and availability.

– Conversant with all relevant requirements for engineering in a COMAH environment as well as trained in COMPEX12/14 & Functional Safety of Instrument systems.

– Excellent communication skills and ability to identify and manage key stakeholders.

– Understanding of the application of digital technology in a Gas Storage / engineering environment to enhance reliability and availability.

– Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) focused, you’ll need to be curious, interested, and proactive.
