Job description

Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit an Investigation Paralegal for a 23 month contract on a rate of £178.83/day (Outside IR35). This role will be primarily office-based, with a flexible option to have working from home days (up to a maximum of two per week).

 
Responsibilities:

 
- Support the Inquiry’s solicitors and counsel in their investigations into matters falling within the Inquiry’s Terms of Reference by assisting with the preparation of formal notices to recover evidence and by analysing documents and evidence ingathered by the Inquiry.
- Work closely with the Inquiry’s records and evidence management team to redact documents and evidence, including witness statements and transcripts, to enable it to be released to parties.
- Assist the Solicitor to the Inquiry to assess accounts of expenses submitted by parties who have received an award of funding for legal representation.
- Prepare papers for use by counsel and members of the Inquiry’s statement-taking team, and undertake administrative tasks required by the solicitors and/or counsel.
 
Essential Skills:

 
- Paralegal or other relevant experience
- Ability to carry out tasks independently with minimum oversight, remaining calm under pressure
- Strong communication skills
- Excellent analytical skills
- Awareness of the need for discretion and to maintain confidentiality
- Confidence with IT and high level of proficiency in all Microsoft packages including Word
- Good organisational/administrative skills
